TTU RECRUITING THIS WEEK
no new commitments this week, a handful of new 2024 and 2025 offers made this week...
https://n.rivals.com/content/athletes/joseph-dodds-300010
Tidehaven (Texas) 2024 running back Joseph Dodds announced an offer from the Red Raiders this week, his first offer.
Located in El Maton, Texas...Doods has limited stats available online, but seems to follow the track standout and football standout prospect profile the coaches like to follow.

Washington (Oklahoma) 2025 tight end Nate Roberts announced an offer from the Red Raiders this past weekend.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound underclassmen already holds seven (7) early offers, including offers from Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Baylor another others.

Port Arthur Memorial (Texas) 2025 defensive end Michael Riles announced an offer from the Red Raiders earlier this week.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound sophomore now holds early offers from Texas Tech and Incarnate Word.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS...
The year was 2007, the No. 24 Red Raiders hosted the No. 16 Missouri Tigers...Graham Harrell throws four (4) interceptions at home and Texas Tech proceeds to lose 41-10 at home.
In many ways, the game against Baylor played out very similarly last weekend. Five (5) interceptions from Morton, Smith and Shough...an offense that struggled to move the football consistently.
Morton is young, these games are going to happen...the Smith and Shough interceptions were questionable, with Smith staying in after a 4th down conversion and immediately throwing a pick over the middle on 1st down and Shough throwing a pick six on his very first attempt. Maybe Shough wasn't ready, we can question the Smith in or out of the game...but the buck stops with Morton, as the offense seemed 'off' from the opening snaps.
There were missed throws, there were forced throws...the running game was absent for most of the first half...there were just no answers on offense for the Red Raiders.
Credit goes to Dave Aranda and his Baylor defense who did a lot to confuse the inexperienced Morton.
The talent is there and one game does not define a career, hence the reference to one of Harrell's worst performances as a Red Raider...but in order to finally win on the road this season, in order to become bowl eligible and finish the season strong...Morton has to be better, the offense has to be better.
Outside of any of the storylines going into the game, the result was simply bad...then you consider the Joey McGuire storylines, the sell-out crowd, the night game in The Jones and it makes it even worse.

THE TCU MATCHUP IS HERE
After an off-season full of cactus talk, cactus schtick and our own RRS bretheren delivering a whole stack of cacti to the TCU coach responsible for calling Lubbock a desert...the matchup against TCU is finally here.
The game kicks off tomorrow at 11am in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs are undefeated, their head coach is Sonny Dykes - the son of former TTU head coach and Lubbock legend Spyke Dykes.
Another week, another game dripping with storylines...more importantly, in the 'new Big 12' - beating teams like TCU in the conference becomes increasingly important.
The Tech offense will have to score points because this TCU offense is going to move the ball and score. Wild things happen at 11am and the Red Raiders certainly have a puncher's chance in this one, but not the team who showed up last weekend...this team has to flush the memories from last Saturday and come out as the spoiler in Fort Worth.
I'm ordering a tall glass of the running game, I'm begging for Kittley and the Texas Tech offense to establish the run tomorrow...the TCU rush defense ranks No. 66 in the nation and is allowing just under 150 yards per game this season. There are big chunk plays available in the run game and those can lead to a lot more openings in the passing game for Morton.
This game is not 'do or die' by any means, but back to back losses to Baylor and TCU will make finishing the season with a winning record very tough for this Texas Tech team.

BIG 12 POWER RANKINGS
the Horned Frogs survived another week undefeated and remain at the top of the Big 12 Power Rankings...
1. TCU
The Horned Frogs had the 11am game on the road in Morgantown and played a close game against the Mountaineers, but eventually pulled away and won 41-31 late in the game. The TCU offense moved the ball well and scored points, the TCU defense made plays when they needed to and gave up 31 points to a team who struggles on offense. In a sport where the only stat that really matters is winning the game, this TCU team is continuing their success on a weekly basis by just figuring out ways to win games in a variety of ways. They face your Red Raiders at home this week at 11am, then finish the season with games @Texas, @Baylor and Iowa State.
2. Kansas State
The now No. 13 Wildcats destroyed Oklahoma State 48-0 last weekend, a result that nobody saw coming. Kansas State played with a backup quarterback at home and thoroughly beat the Cowboys in every facet of the game last Saturday. The fun does not stop this week, the Wildcats host the Texas Longhorns tomorrow night at 6pm for another big home game. They finish the season with games @Baylor, @West Virginia and Kansas.
3. Oklahoma State
The now No. 18 Cowboys were dismantled last weekend in Morgantown, as discussed above. This Oklahoma State team was the top ranked team only two weeks ago, but a brutal three-game stretch against TCU, Texas and Kansas State was too much. The good news is that they get to travel to Kansas for a matchup against the reeling Jayhawks this weekend and have an opportunity to put 48-0 behind them. They finish the season with games against Iowa State, @Oklahoma and West Virginia.
4. Texas
The Longhorns are coming off the bye week and travel to Morgantown for a matchup against Kansas State. This Wildcats team has momentum coming off a big win against Oklahoma State, but does the bye week help Texas come back strong tomorrow? I think this one is a knock down, drag out fight with both teams going strength against strength here. Texas absolutely needs this game to stay in contention for the conference title and a win gets the Lonhorns to bowl eligibility. They finish the season with games against TCU, @Kansas and Baylor.
5. Baylor
The Bears went on the road and beat your Red Raiders 45-17 last weekend. Now 5-3 on the season, Baylor has a chance to become bowl eligible and stay in contention for the conference title with another road game against Oklahoma this weekend at 2pm. The Bears will challenge an average to below average Oklahoma defense and will need another big day from their defense on the road against the Sooners' offense. They finish the season with games against Kansas State, TCU and @Texas.
6. Oklahoma
The Sooners won on the road against Iowa State last weekend 27-13, a good win but probably a misleading result. The Cyclones cannot score this season and 27 points on offense does not jump off the page. Oklahoma hosts Baylor this weekend and will need more than 27 points to win against a sneaky good Bears defense. This game seems like it will tell us a lot about this Sooners team, a home game and a 'must win' game relative to the overall schedule. They finish with games against @West Virginia, Oklahoma State and @Texas Tech.
7. Texas Tech
The Red Raiders dropped a home game to Baylor last weekend, moving to 2-3 in conference play and 4-4 on the season. The offense struggled and turned the ball over five (5) times against Baylor, and things only get tougher with a road game against undefeated TCU tomorrow at 11am. The Horned Frogs offense moves fast and scores a lot of points, so the Tech offense needs to score and the Tech defense needs to come up with turnovers in order for the Red Raiders to win. They finish the season with games against Kansas, @Iowa State and Oklahoma.
8. Kansas
The Jayhawks are coming off a much needed bye week. Kansas started the season strong, climbing into the Top 25 only to lose their last three (3) games since their starting quarterback went down with an injury. Things are never easy in the Big 12 conference and the Jayhawks now host the No. 18 Oklahoma State Cowboys this weekend. The Cowboys were thumped 48-0 by Kansas State, so they are either pissed off and want to win badly...or they continue to play poorly and Kansas has a shot to upset at home. They finish the season with games against @Texas Tech, Texas and @Kansas State.
9. West Virginia
The Mountaineers put up a good fight at home, but ultimately lost to the undefeated Horned Frogs last weekend. West Virginia has a chance to rebound this weekend on the road against Iowa State. The Mountaineers should be able to win on the road by scoring 21-24 points, because the Cyclones cannot score points on offense this season. That being said, Iowa State is always a tough road game and anything can happen. They finish the season with games against Oklahoma, Kansas State and @Oklahoma State.
10. Iowa State
The Cyclones dropped a home game to Oklahoma last weekend, scoring 13 points. Scoring on offense has been an issue all season long for this Iowa State team. They host West Virginia this weekend and have a chance to get into the win column, but only if they can stop the Mountaineers on defense and come up with points off turnovers...because the offense is not getting it done. They finish the season with games against @Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and @TCU.

have a great weekend everyone!
