Stats to make you sports sad...well sadder

Two things were driving me nuts today; the hurry up the line and quick snap and the long fade passes so I went back and watched all of our O plays and kept stats on these two things. Hurry ups, hurry up success, fades, and fade completions

18 - hurry to the line and snap it quick
4 - successful hurry to the line and snap it quick (all in the 1st Q)

7 - long fade passes (felt like a lot more in the stadium)
1 - long fade completions (Sparkman TD reception)

FTR, I hate the hurry up quick snap sofa king (@Matador96 ) bad. It kills us.

Missed Receiver and Two Penalties

I think this game is completely different if two of these three go in our favor. The PI missed call on the catch that was around the defenders back was a drive killer, the face mask call that continued the drive which ended in TCU Touchdown, and Donovan completely missing a wide open man in the flat to take a 4 yard loss against every defender on the line on 4th down were the difference in this game.
Our O line surprisingly did enough to get us the win, our D played amazing until they got tired. Really frustrating way to end a winnable game on the road to TCU but I did not think we would have even had a chance in the 4th quarter when Morton went down.
I feel like we are in a much better place than we have been

Couple of T&F recruiting tidbits

Shawnti Jackson from Raleigh Wakefield, NC has Tech in her final 6 of Tech, Texas, Georgia, USC, Arkansas and Florida. She has made 3 visits so far of the 6 schools. She will make her decision after visiting all 6. She is the #1 returner in the 100M and 400M and #4 in the 200M.
It seems as if India Alix from Klein has committed to Tech today. I have not found out for sure, but her instragram seems to show she has committed. She is the #1 returner in both the LJ and TJ.

Just a great game

What could have been a shocking upset over #7 TCU, we lost this game for three reasons...

1. Bad coaching. The fourth down calls deep in our own territory in a close game have to stop. We have a great punter so use him. Also, the offensive play calling today was, well, offensive. It got our quarterback hurt and the run by Smith was the most predictable play in history. Further, without a Rodney Allison type of option quarterback, why were we running the option so much? Sorry, but calling deep passes on third downs and a couple of yards needed is ill advised, in my opinion.

2. Mistakes on our part. Remember the illegal motion in the first half from the TCU 2 yard line? That cost us 4 points, having to kick a field goal. The dropped pass by Sparkman on the play he got hurt would have been huge had he caught the ball. The missed open receivers by Smith and Shough were also terrible mistakes.

3. Perhaps most importantly, the officiating in this game was clearly horrible, and Tech was simply raped. TCU got away with at least one block in the back on the early punt return, the non calls on several obvious TCU pass interferences, the terrible pass interference call on Tech in our end zone and the call that completely turned the game around, the phantom face mask call.

I normally don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, but this game had all the appearances of a fix. Every bad call in this game went against Tech and that smells like last week's garbage. And those calls and non calls were not just bad calls that went against us, they were outrageous and game changing.

Add it all up and it was a winnable game that we lost, thanks to the horrible calls and our own mistakes by the coaches and the players.

McGuire needs to PUNT

When you’re using a clearly ineffective qb like shough, analytics go out the window. It’s just stupid to keep going for it. When you’re defense is keeping you in the game.

Even with bs refs McGuire is the one that ended techs chances by going for it in tech territory over and over.

Grow up coach and don’t make your players look bad when the game is already decided!

Still Believing

First, no one hates TCU more than me. Losing to TCU is the absolute worst.

Gus Johnson did a hatchet job on Tech and analytics today. It was super irresponsible and if I was Joey McGuire I would punch him the next time I saw him. Analytics are what allowed this very middle of the road team to beat Texas and Houston. And if you live by it, you die by it. And when you get better players, you can override the analytics.

But I like the attitude of this team. It is collectively not good and put TCU on the ropes. The recruiting is dramatically improved.

Kittley has been terrible recently and was elevated by apparently a generational small school QB in Bailey Zappe. He obviously tailored a game plan for Morton and did not change it at all with Shough who simply cannot do the things Morton does. And Shough was not good. I would have preferred to see Smith when Shough overthrew the first bubble route.

But Kittley can be replaced if need be.

Keep the faith at the top.

Our O's Problems...

Started a few years ago when Matt Wells refused to recruit HS OL amd Cody started down his crusade to get him fired. I know you guys think this is all on Kittley but we knew this OL would be bad if they were healthy and they haven't been. This is on the poor OL. We have 9, 3* or better OL either on campus as freshman or committed. We'll get there but this year and maybe next year will hurt.

OT: Fort Worth recommendations

I have arrived in Cowtown after driving through plenty of storms on the way including when I arrived. I will say it was a bit of a struggle finding where to get my credential let alone park because all of the lots are closed right now and there's a ton of tents setup for tailgating. I found it nonetheless despite not much help from a phone call I made to try to find the place.

Anyways, I'm starving and would like some early-dinner recs. Let's ride! *Russell Wilson voice*
