Joey used analysis paralysis as the excuse for the defense playing so poorly on Saturday. Said they were trying to be "perfect" which resulted in slow movement and uninspired play. I find this excuse to be BS. I can't imagine any legitimate coach like Saban, Gundy, Smart, Snyder etc using this as an excuse for his team's poor performance. What he should have said is there is no excuse for us showing up flat and getting our asses kicked at home by an inferior team. I also found his demeanor at the press conference to be troubling. He seemed to downplay the debacle that we witnessed at home before a sellout crowd with a lot at stake. I know this was one loss but for the first time in a long time we were at the top of the conference, at home, with something to play for and we completely no showed. We are in year 3 and once again were out coached by a coaching staff that is on the brink of getting fired. I also find it concerning that our staff has great difficulty making in-game adjustments. No way we the Defense should have stayed in essentially the same formation all game. Anyway, hopefully, the "analysis paralysis" will not infect the entire team again this week in FW.

Being a MM, level said something the peaked my interest about Hammond. That Kittley found him and was all in on him.

I then realized this is the first QB that Kittley actually wants. The Man of Glass he inherited and pretty much the same with Behren.

I’m no XOs guy, but am excited to see what our new QB with no eyebrows does.

To not anger anyone, fire kittley, fire TD, fire no one, fire someone else.

The Big 12 really needs to change this BS.

Sports Illustrated posted its preseason basketball rankings today. Pretty good respect for Tech at No. 15.

But, of course, that will only get you sixth in the Big 12: 2. Houston. 3. Kansas. 6. Iowa State. 9. Baylor. 11. Arizona.

15. Texas Tech Red Raiders (6th in Big 12)​

Consider me a believer in what Grant McCasland is doing at Texas Tech. The Red Raiders added one of the top point guards (Elijah Hawkins) and bigs (JT Toppin) in the portal, cornerstone pieces to play next to returners Chance McMillian and Darrion Williams. TTU hasn’t gotten the same attention that the top-tier Big 12 squads have gotten this offseason, but don’t be surprised if they crash that party come conference play.

He’s got two more games he can play this year or he burns it. Curious how Joey approaches this. I guess Hammond could opt out as well. This season is pretty much washed now so hopefully Behren gets healthy.

About midway through last season, it became apparent to me that Wells wasn't going to be the guy to take us to the Promised Land. I didn't think that he was a "bad" coach - just not a "great" one. I came to expect that he would cause us to wallow in mediocrity for several years, and then we would eventually part ways. My hope was that our administration would see the light soon enough or we could have enough success that we could avoid complete apathy among our alumni/fan base (if we weren't already there). The last thing we need is to lose another 5 or 6 years on a coach that isn't taking us anywhere - if that happened, we are legitimately at risk of becoming "Kansas", and we could potentially be at risk from a conference realignment standpoint.

Sadly, despite my low expectations following last season, I've been surprised at how very poorly this season has gone and how bad our team has looked. I thought that taking all of the transfers was a really bad long-term decision, but I expected they would make us better this year. I also thought that there was no way that Wells could continue to make bad decisions (like he did last year), and that he was coming around on some schematic things that didn't make sense... Sadly, it seems that things have actually gotten worse, and we continue our decent into a "losing culture".

There aren't any reasons for optimism. Wells isn't building the program through recruiting, and it's clear that he is in over his head. He's not capable of running a program on this level. Yes, he is a very nice guy, but we are even starting to see flashes of some bad character flaws as he criticized and questioned.

Wells is going to win some games this season - I think we will get 2 or 3 more wins. But even if we enjoy that amount of success, it's beyond apparent that he is not the "Elite" coach that we endeavored to hire. We need to cut bait, rip the bandaid, and find a coach who is truly outstanding. The longer we wait to act, the more difficult it will be (and the longer it will take) to dig ourselves out of this sad and embarrassing rut.

Cost us 28 points.
TCUs first score was a 36 yards run by Williams.
Their second was a 75 yard passing play to Williams over Roberts.
Their third was with just over 9 minutes left a 52 yard passing play to Bech to our 14. This was on a second and 11. That lead to a TD

Last was an 84 yard passing play to McMillan. Looked to be on Macho.

Of their 349 yards passing, 209 came on 3 plays.

Of their 117 rushing, 36 came on one play.

My goodness.

Don’t got a ton here. I’ll talk a bit about what I saw from Tech’s offense and defense on rewatch. Nuance in the charting as always.

-Overall, Tech’s offensive scheme was a struggle. The run game was pretty bad, and I think that Tech’s plan with an abundance of zone runs that this offensive line just isn’t good enough to handle.

-Sterling Porcher had an atrocious game, I hate to call out a player like this, but it was so, so bad. Porcher’s strain on the backend of plays is honestly awful to watch, he struggles to sustain his blocks and doesn’t have the athleticism to recover. It cost you on the Hammond fumble, but it limited you plenty.

-Hammond was a fun watch. He shows advanced processing ability, pocket poise and put some good throws on tape. Hope he’s not too rattled because you might be leaning on him plenty next weekend. I was excited by what I saw, from the run aspect and from the pocket, bet he graded out pretty alright.

-Tech’s defense was awful. Night and day in the middle of the game compared to the beginning and end. Started out with no answers, and undisciplined LB play, with Savion Williams in the backfield, then had awful corner play late.

-The 2nd & 3rd quarter was full of pressure and quality coverage, extremely frustrating that it went away.

-Leaving Macho Stevenson on a man island against a quality receiver like McAlister is tough. Just got beat (McAlister likely got away with a push off, but not an excuse). The post to Bech was a tough break schematically but a hell of an answer for Briles.

I’ll monitor this thread if you have questions, but I’m also not trying to let this stew all afternoon.

Looking for any kind of glimmer of hope for pulling out a win at Ames and looked at the team stats. Tech and ISU are very close on the offensive side. Then I saw defensive stat for Points allowed. Tech 288 - ISU 101!!! There's the difference between 7-0 and what we are , staring straight at 5-7 season.

Went to walk the dogs yesterday evening and our neighbor Ken was outside, dejectedly taking down his Chicago Bears flag. 😂

I’m sure there’s a dozen threads on it that I’ve misused. Sorry if that’s the case.

What’s the logic in rotating kickers? I don’t see any system. We don’t use one for longer and the other for shorter. It looks like alternating shot in a 2 man scramble or alternating shortstop on a daddy-ball travel baseball team. I assume kicking is a lot like QB…if you have 2, you don’t have 1.

I am really looking forward to a defensive jump to happen. Its Grant's second season, there are enough key guys returning to build off of and I think Toppin/Fede give you a much better/more reliable paint presence. It will also be interesting to see what happens on the perimeter, can Grant turn McMillian and Overton into good defenders? Both have the tools to be much better than they have shown up to this point. How do we manage the point guard position? All the positivity around Anderson makes me feel better about that spot offensively, but both guys are pretty small on the defensive side of the ball.

...that is what the offensive line of the vaunted line coach Bill Bedenbaugh of the Sooners has surrendered.............2 games, 18 sacks....

With the talent OU supposedly gets plus the street cred Bedenbaugh gathers I did not think that would happen....

Just caught shock-troop time of Illinois vs Ole Miss ( Ole miss handled them convincingly ) and noticed tons of familiar faces on the Ole Miss bench - - - Al Pickens, Bob Donewald, Brian Burg, and Mark Adams........

Blows my mind to see them back together after how reckless they were at times...

Does anyone know, that is willing to share, what our payroll is on O vs on D?

I'm sure no one wants to tell an exact number but a ratio would be sufficient as well. We spend X% of our payroll on O ver Y% on D. or We spend $1.x on O to every $1 on D

I think that may give us a much better idea of who is coaching well given their resources.

With how much Porcher has struggled have we heard anything about if Marryman is healthy moving Rogers back to G and Buchanan and Merryman at the tackles. . Porcher seems to struggle in almost every phase of the game.
