Terence Steele game intro

When the video player intros were shown during Cowboys v Steelers game, instead of saying "Texas Tech" Terence Steele introduced himself being from "Cibolo Steele High School", whereas most players state their college. I've wondered why a player would not state his college, and now that one of our own does it-makes me wonder if they are very proud of their hometown (and maybe in Terrence's case, the names are the same!!), or not a supporter of their college?

Question for you smart folks who know about the OL…

What makes a good offensive lineman?

Does it just take pure strength, learning the correct technique, getting good leverage, play calling strategy, other things?

Do you require everyone on the line to be good or can you do with one great lineman to operate through? Two?

I would guess it requires some combination of all of the above but what’s the most important?

Can these things be taught or does it require some innate ability?

This Year vs Next Year

Take the coaching out of the conversation and look at the team. Injuries, inexperience, size and speed are all major issues right now. How and where does this team improve for next year? What replacements do we have that will make a difference in next years team vs what we currently put on display? Now, add back in the current coaching staff to next years team. There is little to zero chance this program can show progress in 2025. I'm trying to find anything to be excited about for this program going forward.

This program doesn’t deserve our investment

I don’t know whose fault it is. I don’t know if it’s Kirby Hocutt’s, Joey McGuire’s, Matt Wells’, Kliff Kingsbury’s, or someone else’s.

Texas Tech football does not deserve my time, my money, or anyone else’s. This is a fully unserious program from top to bottom.

I fully appreciate I can’t give as much as the big money donors, but this absolutely atrocity does not deserve the amount I’m able to give.

We’re on our 4th failed coach crossing 15 years and it has only increasingly gotten worse. Put this dogshit athletic department in the Mountain West with New Mexico State, Utah State, and call it a day.

I’m home

And all I can think about is that Saturdays game did not feel like a Joey McGuire coached game.

What happened to gutsy decisions that help you stretch the margins?

2022 McGuire would’ve gone for in on 4th & 4 from the TCU 6. Awful loss that pretty much ends your season for anything more than a bowl game.

So tough. Sorry to pile on to a horse that I’m sure is beat to a pulp, but I’ve been driving for the last five hours. I’ll have more coherent thoughts/talking points after I rewatch tomorrow.

STORY: Red Raiders in the NFL: 2024 Week Six pres. by BHW Law

Not a great week for Red Raiders in the NFL with Mahomes/Brooks on a bye. Was disappointed Rabbit didn’t play more after he put up a 90+ PFF grade last week but oh well.

RECRUITING: 2026 Beckville RB Jorden Prince has Red Raider ties

Got the roster a day or two before camp but it did not have the players' numbers on the roster. Anyway, saw this player pull up wearing a Tech jacket AND Tech sweatpants so I knew right away I had to go talk to him. Turns out it was Jorden Prince, the younger brother of J'Koby Williams. Always love it when it works out like that.

The path forward…

To me, this is the pivotal moment for Joey’s program and tenure. Everything hinges on what happens next.

Im not saying you have to win in Ames, but you need to have a radical adjustment in how you are approaching these games.

In every game this year where we’ve won or had a chance to win, we’ve had a point we’re up by 2 possessions. In all those games, we have lacked a killer instinct. We get conservative, and we let teams back in all these games. We’ve been fortunate enough to win most of those so far this year, but today, it bit us HARD, obviously.

This team is not built to get ahead and sit on people. Your secondary is beat to hell, and you can’t produce a consistent pass rush without creating pressure creatively.

Your offensive line is a roller coaster in the run game, and you can’t just line up and get 5 yards a carry to close games out. Doesn’t matter how good your RBs are if you can’t open holes for them consistently.

However, this team is improved in pass pro, actually quite a bit better than the last two years.

With all that information:

-Hammond is a DUDE. Give him the keys, give him confidence, and let him sling it. And he can make plays with his feet. The Hammond era has to start now.

-This cannot be the Tahj show. I love him as much as any one of yall, good lord I love him, but the O-line is not good enough for him to play patient runner and find 4-6 yards consistently. Defenses have it totally figured out, and Tahj just does not have the burst or gear to break loose.

-This offense has to become aggressive, and like in year 1 under Joey, they have to take risks, utilize your QB’s ability to gain a first down with his feet, and you CANNOT play this scared style of offense. CD, Kelly, Hudson, and Conyers are all guys you can get aggressive with and hunt mismatches for.

-JKoby Williams, hello. Get him the ball. He almost always does something really good with the ball in his hands. Give it to him on jet sweeps. He’s a playmaker. We need to be manufacturing plays for playmakers.

-Defensively, we have to continue to focus on manufacturing pass rush through blitzes. We have an infirmary for the secondary right now. They can’t cover anyone. Damn the torpedoes and live and die with your aggression.

Play aggressive football. We did it in year 1. Do it again.

And when we get to the offseason, go pay for two pass rushers and 2 O-linemen.

SPITBALLIN' Final Whistle Feeling - Texas Christian pres. by Treeline Vacation Rentals

Absolutely brutal. Inexcusable loss. From settling for a field goal deep in TCU territory, to running it with a freshman quarterback

-Tahj Brooks was once again really strong, battled a ton. Had some injury stuff and still put up over 100 yards. He was huge as usual.

-I thought Tech adjusted really well defensively in the middle quarters. Harvey Dyson played a really strong game and had plenty of pressures to help stymie that TCU offense.

-The takeaways were great, but the corners, especially Macho Stevenson, had some really poor games. Tech played awful defense in the fourth quarter, pretty frustrating after what Tech was able to do pressure wise and coverage wise earlier.

-Super impressed with the stuff from Hammond. Kid has the stuff. Mental processing is evident, and he has some different zip on the ball, it’s impressive. More after I watch the tape tomorrow.

-J’Koby Williams getting as many carries as he did down the stretch was fascinating. He gives you something that the rest of the backs don’t have and the crack toss to get him in space was part of that.

-Brutal break on the fumble late. Don’t understand the play call when you have 28 back there and just need to hold onto the ball and kick a field goal. Heartbreaker, don’t know how you bounce back, more coming.

Remember the 2023 Wyoming game?

This right here should be the mantra for any team preparing to play Tech.

"For this game, it was just take 'em to the deep end of the pool and they're gonna fold," Peasley said during an on-field, postgame interview with CBS Sports’ Amanda Guerra. "That's exactly what we did and I'm just happy to come away with a W."

This team is not prepared or equipped to play winning football for 60 minutes. Players or coaches.

Oh, and we catch our next two opponents coming off bye weeks. That should help.
