OT: Luckiest SOB alive - Barstool article on already rich guy who caught Judge HR

Life seems really tough for this guy right now. That ball is worth millions.

College basketball... The Corral, Houston #3, and Tech not being ranked.

How the f*ck did I miss all of this. That pep rally for The Corral was flat out pathetic with "Bless the mood..." Beard hitting that bam bam again trying to recreate what he did in the LBK. Also... Womble> KD basketball center.

Also, Houston has it rolling and I sit here and wonder why the national media is doubting our roster in the rankings. Turnover of players I assume?

Random wtf's after a few twitter scrolls to wrap up the work week.

UPDATE: Gundy on Tech's defensive pressure: "I don't know if I was ready to see that"

For those interested, here's some of what Oklahoma State Mike Gundy said this week at his press conference:

- Coach Gundy told the media he can see this game being a 100-snap game for both teams with how fast they both play. However, he's okay with it because of their depth especially upfront on the defensive line. He said they don't have anyone really surpassing 42-43 snaps a game in the trenches on defense, "which is really good." He said it'll be a different challenge and different look for his defense. They'll focus on defending the pass game and covering the flats.

- Gundy doesn't know much about Joey McGuire other than when he would recruit Cedar Hill guys back in the day. He hasn't interacted with him much at all since. He said they base their game plan on film and studying the opponent. It's no different in approach with a first-year coach at any program including McGuire. He mentioned Joey liking to go for it on fourth down but doesn't know or have a feel for much.

- Gundy said there's advantages to having a guy like Joey with a ton of high school coaching experience. He mentioned the ability to recruit and communicate with other high school coaches. He said managing a larger-scale program and the other side of recruiting is different but at the end of the day football is football.

- Interesting comment from Gundy. He was talking about learning from his former coaches and coordinators and taking away things to build his own legacy. He mentioned one disadvantage to his career so far is staying at one place for so long. He said he sometimes wishes he could've had that experience seeing another spot but "you can't have both."

- QB Spencer Sanders was well protected a week ago. Gundy said his o-line was better last week than the Big 12 championship game a year ago. They didn't want that to repeat. Gundy said he used to live in the world of heavy packages. One or two yards were nothing for Gundy. Now, they live in shotgun. They're working on getting to those roots of getting under center for short-yardage situations but that just takes practice and experience.

- Gundy said they tried using analytics one year. They bought the book, materials, etc. He said 75% or more of the time though his brain didn't agree with the book. He said for some reason, matchups, flow of the game, etc., made him go with his brain/gut decision. They haven't used analytics since when determining outcomes.

- Gundy said he doesn't know if he was ready to see Texas Tech's defensive pressure on film. He was asked specifically about Tyree Wilson on the edge. Tech got pressure on K-State and Texas. He said Tech will be aggressive and do a lot of different things to bring pressure. Last week, they didn't see a lot of blitzing at all. This week will be different.

- Gundy called Tim DeRuyter a smart football coach that does a lot of things. DeRuyter will throw a variety at them in term of blitzing. His philosophy will be the opposite of what they saw against coach Aranda and Baylor.

The Brand

Looks like “The Brand” concept isn’t as original as I had thought. While I’m not surprised that it came from Rhule, I am a bit surprised it’s almost the exact same quote that Rhule is using. The Carolina Panther’s subreddit has been roasting Rhule for a while and a leak of one of his presentations seems to be their latest gripe. Hopefully this works out at a college level, because it looks pretty hokey in the context of the NFL.

HOOPS: Final ESPN Way-Too-Early Top 25 (Oct 6th)

25. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Previous: 24

Mark Adams' first offseason in Lubbock was highlighted by transfers: he signed six players from the portal and one junior college transfer. His rebuilt roster ended up winning 27 games in 2021-22 and reaching the Sweet 16 before losing to Duke. It's going to take a similar effort this season. Kevin Obanor is the lone returnee who averaged more than 2.2 points last season, and nine newcomers enter the fold. The star there is two-time first-team All-WAC selection Fardaws Aimaq, who averaged 18.9 points and 13.6 rebounds last season at Utah Valley. But Aimaq suffered a foot injury in late September and will miss some time. Adams also landed De'Vion Harmon (Oregon), Kerwin Walton (North Carolina), Jaylon Tyson (Texas), D'Maurian Williams (Gardner-Webb) and five-star recruit Elijah Fisher.

Projected starting lineup:

De'Vion Harmon (10.8 PPG at Oregon)
Kerwin Walton (3.4 PPG at North Carolina)
Elijah Fisher (five-star)
Kevin Obanor (10.0 PPG)
Fardaws Aimaq (18.9 PPG at Utah Valley)

STORY: Texas Tech looks for gritty road win against playoff-hopeful Cowboys pres. by All Hands Craft Cocktails

What do y'all think? What are you most excited to see? How close will the game be and what are your score predictions?

I really do think there is a chance for an upset here and I could definitely be talked into it, but I'm just not sure at this point.

ESPN Article on Jimbo and A&M

Johntay Cook just absolutely murders Jimbo and his offense in like 2 sentences in this. I don't know if he'll ever be a great player, but he's really entertaining at least.

One simple request

Been on here a long time and don’t post very often. I’m old but you’ll not find a more dedicated red raider than me.

For the love of god can we quit busting balls when recruits call us the university of Texas tech. I don’t give two shits what they call us if they sign the dotted line.

Wreck’em Texas tech University, University of Texas Tech, TTU, so on and so forth

The Field of 68 Tech-nical difficulties resolved? Even without Fardaws Aimaq, Red Raiders may have a solution in the middle

1. The looming question in Lubbock

Texas Tech is no stranger to the transfer portal. The Red Raiders built a Sweet 16 squad last season with four newcomers among their top eight players. Same story this season: Four transfers — De’Vion Harmon (Oregon), Fardaws Aimaq (Utah State), Kerwin Walton (North Carolina) and Jaylon Tyson (Texas) — figure to either start or play significant roles.

Except one.

Aimaq’s recently diagnosed broken foot will potentially sideline him for up to three months. They’ll certainly miss his production (18.9 ppg, 13.6 rpg), and his defensive coverage; the 6-11 senior could end up as the Big 12 Defensive POY. That is … unless sophomore Daniel Batcho (also 6-11), can handle it.

From the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal:

“I’m trying to do whatever the team needs from me,” Batcho said. ”It’s going to be hard to put up stats like Fardaws, but I’m going to do my best.”
And his biggest fan? Fardaws Aimaq.
“The time I had practicing with him, he’s got abilities that you really can’t learn or teach,” said Aimaq, who’s on a month-to-month timetable with the injury to his left foot — which was in a cast Monday. “He just plays hard and his ability to play 110% every-single second that he’s on the floor just puts him in the right position. The sky’s the limit for him.”
Still, there are questions. Let’s say Batcho ensures there isn’t a huge drop-off defensively. Texas Tech still needs to ensure the offense doesn’t stagnate, hope there aren’t any further injuries (or delays in Aimaq’s recovery), and figure out essential chemistry questions. It worked last year. Can it work again?

That’s the essential question posed in The Almanac.

Donovan Smith Film Threads vs. Kansas State

First half: Login to view embedded media
Second half: Login to view embedded media

This was an interesting one to go through. I honestly think the second half had the highest of highs from Donovan outside of the game-sealing pick, and the stats would back that up. Putting up 270 yards in that half and leading what should've been four scoring drives was a great step forward, but the first half was pretty rough. I can see a lot of the frustration with him, but his accuracy has taken a step forward and I really think if the line was slightly better it would make a big difference.

As always let me know what y'all think. Also a couple non-DS thoughts:

- We really need to find ways to use Xavier White more. I'm not sure if he's a great pure receiver, but utilizing him a little in the backfield, some in the slot, and then especially as a returner would do a lot of good. His second half was very impressive.
- I'm all for finding an alternative to Caleb Rogers. there were a ton of bad moments from this film and I don't like singling out one guy but I'd attribute at least 50% of the pass blocking breakdowns to him just getting outmatched.
- The run blocking is a massive weakness, although this week was probably the best we've seen in that regard. I think Thompson took a nice step forward in pass protection too, though Brooks' receiving ability is probably slightly superior. Hope we can see some of Valdez post-bye week.

DFW CPA Firm Rec

Hey gents...I have a couple of businesses I run along with my own personal taxes. I had a CPA in Dallas that I liked but over the last year or so he's been really tough to run down on questions and generally harder to work with. In my mind, I'm looking for a younger guy with a new firm that's hungry for business. I want someone that's sharp and aggressive (not unethical) in how they approach taxes. My taxes have gotten a lot more complex and want someone I can have a more fluid conversation with to make sure I'm saving as much as I can. Let me know if you have recommendations.
