LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics will debut a new public address announcer inside Jones AT&T Stadium this season as longtime stadium voice Curtis Parrish will step down after 24 years in the position.

"After almost 25 years as the Jones AT&T Stadium announcer, it is time to step away from the microphone to focus on my commitment to my growing family and my service as the Lubbock County Judge," Parrish said. "It has been my honor to be a part of Texas Tech Football for the last quarter of a century, and I look forward to cheering on Coach McGuire and our Red Raiders now and in the future."

Parrish, who serves as the Lubbock County Judge, will be recognized on the field this season for his 20-plus years of service not only in Jones AT&T Stadium but also at the John Walker Soccer Complex since its opening as well as in fill-in roles at many of Texas Tech's events during that time.

"We'd like to thank Curtis Parrish for his many years of service as our public address announcer," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "He has been behind the mic for many of our most-memorable moments in our history, and we are forever grateful for the impact he has made on the gameday atmosphere inside Jones AT&T Stadium during his tenure as our stadium voice."

Kickoff between Texas Tech and Abilene Christian is slated for 6:30 p.m. Saturday night inside Jones AT&T Stadium.

STORY: What I thought the turning point was in Texas Tech's 44-41 win over Cincinnati

My initial takeaways from the game tonight. Hats off to both sides of the ball. Full thoughts coming tomorrow. Enjoy this win, Red Raiders.

14-3 at Home / 3-9 on the road

Joey has certainly resurrected the Jones being a tough place to play. Only 3 losses total in Lubbock at almost the half way point of year 3.
14-3 is stellar.

But, as he’s said as much himself, to really get over the hump in turning this program around, they’re gonna have to learn how to win in unfriendly environments. It’s been the exact opposite on the road. 3-9…

They’ve made it a point of emphasis this offseason and in fall camp
From Joey in July:
“If you’re going to win games on the road, you’ve got to be a tough football team,” said McGuire during Tuesday’s Big 12 Media Days session at Alegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. “If you’re going to win games in November and December, you’ve got to be a tough football team. We’re growing. We’re trending in that direction, but we have not been tough enough to win games on the road. That’s been one of our biggest Achilles' heels. But if we’re going to be in the mix and if we’re going to be talked about at the end of the year and playing in the Big 12 championship, we’ve got to go to Iowa State, we’ve got to go to TCU and we’ve got to Oklahoma State and we’ve got to find a way to win games on the road.”

If this program is ever gonna be a contender, then it’s gotta get dubs on the road. Pretty simple.

Guess what? We are headed to Tucson this week to play a Wildcat team that just got a massive road dub vs Utah. 😬 Late AF kick too vs what may be a ranked opponent by next week.

I’ll say this though, only 3 of those road losses were real beatings. In fact, you only got beat by 13 or less in 7 of those 12 road games. You’ve often been right there in the game as the visiting squad, but can’t quite seem to close the gap.

But again if you wanna be a contender, gotta start turning that 3-9 record around somewhere… headed to AZ this week.

Do we know what kind of team we have? I think we do.

Defense:

- The defense is what it is. It's just not going to be a good defense this season.

- Can't rush the passer.

- Secondary is going to struggle.

- Looks like we will be solid in stopping the run.

Offense:

- The offense will continue to be inconsistent. Inconsistent play calling, inconsistent performance.

- WRs are generally good but will have some drops it appears.

- Tahj is a badass.

- Offense line is decent at run blocking and will struggle all season in pass pro.

Every game will be close.

Tech DL

Why are they struggling to get pressure? It is a scheme issue or do just not have the players to beat 1 on 1 blockers? Just a half a second step would go a long way to rush the QB and speed up his throws. Frustrating to watch.

All things considered, the secondary has been holding their own in coverage.

Remote broadcast announcers

I’ve had enough of them. They are completely out of touch with the game.
They don’t recognized injuries in real time. There has been multiple plays where players made a play and then hobbled off, and they have zero clue. Cincy RB hobbled off and so did Conyers. No mention of it until they see the Cincy guy go in the tent.
They don’t focus on controversial calls because there is obviously no one (producers) communicating with them in the trucks. Eakin was obviously hit as a defenseless receiver and there was helmet to helmet, and they replay it one in real time and say, Good Call. Wtf.
They haven’t even recognized guys like Chapman Lewis are no longer in the game.
Is there anything we or the Conference can do about this bullshit?

Let’s talk offensive line

For as weak as we all expected it to be, and as much shuffling that’s had to be done, those guys up front really came together last night.

Accounting for almost 250 yards rushing, and keeping Morton’s jersey clean will do just about any week. It doesn’t always look pretty, but they’re punching up this season. Kudos to our OL!

Tonight was my first home football game since 2019…

The stadium upgrades, the lights, the sound system, the video board. It was a 10/10!

I still can’t believe how great the game day experience was tonight.

I graduated from Tech in 2004, and to see how far we’ve come makes me so proud.

My son is a junior in high school and the game tonight sealed the deal for him.

Proud Red Raider!!

Achilles Heel

Ben Roberts. I've said this before and I'll say it again, he got his Freshman AA Award last year making 80%+ of his tackles at least 7+ yards downfield. He is a complete liability in space and makes reads late which has him constantly chasing plays. His strength is in the run game between the tackles. Good for him but Rodriguez has that covered. We need speed at Roberts' spot and he aint got it. I'm pleased to see Curry getting more run each week because he is obviously faster and appears to be more instinctual though that needs more data to confirm.
