Cincinnati - Texas Tech game in 1968

So Tech hosted Cincinnati on Sept. 21, 1968, my freshman year. It was my first Tech football game and I can still remember the details.

Cincinnati's quarterback was Greg Cook, who was later a first round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. Also on that Cincy team was one Jim O'Brien, who was a third round pick by the Baltimore Colts.

With 3:39 left in the game, Cook threw a 53 yard touchdown pass to O'Brien and the game ended in a 10-10 tie. Tech drove into Cincinnati territory but Kenny Vinyard's last chance 58 yard field goal fell just short of the crossbar.

You may also recall that it was O'Brien who kicked the winning field goal in Super Bowl V, giving the Colts a 16-13 win over Dallas.

It has been a long time coming, but I'm looking for payback on Saturday.

Guns Up!
