2023 has been an incredible year for gaming.

My game of the year is Spider Man 2.

I also want to check out Alan Wake 2, but I hate that it’s digital only.

I thought better of this site. As a former head fb coach, any loss (and I had too many) would cause a look at the previous weeks habits. Any Tech fan that’s been alive for at least 100 Tech football games - watched in-person or tv - knows several red flags were up last week. And only one post about this being a trap game appeared. RRS HOW? You have to step up when we don’t step up ourselves. Red flags:

1. Favored by 8. We never handle being favored by more than 3.5. Underdogs work best.
2. Head coach, Qb, Rb on Top lists. One maybe but 3??? C’mon guys. Has to be caught.
3. Not one, and I mean not a person brought up how bad we looked vs Wazzou. Not even acu - unacceptable. Constant reminders of misery only from now on.
4. People freely saying such words as “playoff” or “big12 champs” or “good” - such a setup.
5. Opponent “sucks”. Who are we to ever think we won’t fix the ills of others. Undefeated, ranked, winning record - only way we respond correctly.
6. Not one long suffering “Micah better be playing or I’ll cheese grate my sack”. Sure sign and no one caught it.
7. College GAMEDAY gives us a % chance of playoff. Should have shut the entire website down as soon as eyes were burned by such optimism.
8. No one and I mean no one was calling for Joey, Kitleys or anyone else’s job for over 2 weeks. I blame my fellow patrons for easing up. Preposterous. They hear us! Motivate men, motivate!!

The fix:

1. For every sunshine post - make something up about chemistry or bad food in the new field house.
2. We win 3 in a row - there better be mods watching!

When we are the most down - we rise. So keep us down mods!! When we lose to atom state - we beat Michigan the next week. This kind of accountability is what I expect and pay for. TCU is favored by more than 4 - GO TIME!!!

Brown took an awful lot of shit on this board last week for this quote, that thank God we didn't have the guy running our team, etc. Of course, that was when we were 5-1 and on a four-game winning streak.

Now that Baylor embarrassed Tech at home, where is that same bravado on this board? In the last two days, frankly a surprising number on this board is in a way saying the same thing Brown is saying. Hey, just enjoy the atmosphere and don't get caught up in the final score. We're historically a .500 program, we're too isolated to be any better, no real winning coach would ever want to come here, apparently other schools with similar profiles that have taken a step up must have some secret sauce that Tech will never have, we're a basketball school and other assorted staples of mediocrity.

Those of us who believe Tech in the NEW Big 12 should be an 8-9-win program and go into the middle of November with a good chance to get into the Big 12 title game most years because of facilites, competitive NIL and fan support, are just not tethered to reality. We're living in a dream world. In other words, we are not and never will be a Kansas State, which at one time in the not-so-distant past had 22 losing seasons in 23 years and 10 times won three games or less.

So, if this be the case, maybe some new fan parameters need to be set: enjoy the tailgating, the march in of the band, seeing friends, the uniform combos, soak in the sunshine, make plans for postgame dinner, and if the home team happens to win, well, that's wonderful, but we really shouldn't expect too much of that since winning has never been in our DNA. Oh, and don't forget to up your donations to the Matador Club and Red Raider Club and we'll see everyone at the next home game.

I’m selling my parking passes in the West Lot for 17 of the 18 home games (keeping NW State on 11/8). I’m asking $175 total for these 17 games. Message me if interested.

TLDR Warning:

I'm frustrated, but last night was honestly the lowest my blood pressure has been during a Tech game in at least 15 years. I hate that this is where I'm at as a fan, but apathy has 100% set in, and I truly just don't care enough to let it impact my life like it used to. That said, I still want to see this program succeed. I'm assuming Joey is getting at least 1-2 more years, so what all needs to change from your perspectives? In my mind, these are the obvious and glaring things:

1: Offensive Staff: Zach Kitley has to be let go, and possibly now. We have a large enough sample size to know his concepts can't work and he has zero ability to adjust. I know a lot of people will say that nothing good can come from firing him mid-season, but what do we really gain with keeping him until the end of the season? Never keep an employee you know you are going to fire eventually. Cut ties now and move on.

2: Analytics: I love being aggressive, but only in the right situations. Our defense was way improved last night, but you wouldn't know that from the box score. We cannot continue to put them in bad spots. Tim Deruyter needs to hammer Joey about this.

3: Recruiting Strategy: I was fully on-board with the moneyball recruiting strategy we've deployed. Thought it was innovative and a great way to maximize talent and resources, but starting to think it's not going to work. Where are all of these "athletes" we've been bringing in? We look slow and undersized at just about every position minus WR. I love the opportunities in the transfer portal, but not necessarily for OL or DL. We absolutely need to start paying for high-end linemen out of high school and develop them. Which brings me to my next point...

4. Development/S&C: Do we have the right positional and strength & conditioning staff to properly develop our players? Sure seems like our kids do not improve very often. If we need changes here, what position groups should see a change? Is there an opportunity to bring in a development coordinator (maybe that already exists?) to start tracking both players and coaches to hold them accountable?

What are other areas that need to be addressed for McGuire to turn it around?

I don’t really understand half these grades but here they are. I think the OL grades are too good and so are several on defense.

The main stats that stood out were Behren’s average time to throw (way too high, he was holding onto the ball forever) and the entire defense only generating 3 pressures. Just zero pass rush which is hard to understand.

I have a lot of thoughts, and not a lot of time to write em, but here’s some of em.

-Downright abhorrent in all phases. Tech was god awful on special teams, inconsistent on offense and atrocious on defense.

-I am pretty stunned at how poorly Tech played the run. It has been one of the strong points of this Tech team and you were ran all over by a team that has been awful at running the ball. While the Bears have a big offensive line, they haven’t been a good one by any stretch of the imagination.

-Tech played a ton of dime with a three-down front, something that has been flashed a ton earlier in the year and was fairly successful but not today. I understand the idea, taking the extra coverage player when you’re not in a good way from a pass rush perspective, but it was not near good enough. I also thought it was interesting how soft Tech played defense, not a ton of simulated pressures, which has been the only way Tech has pressured the QB this year.

-Tech’s OL was awful. Flat out. Not good enough as a run blocking unit and it led to you getting a ton of TFLs and a ton of pressure by Baylor.

-Morton’s throwing decisions were an issue, but not the biggest one, obviously. More on that after watching the tape.

I’m hosting a buddy from England this weekend for his 3rd Tech football game. He has asked if there is a bar in Lubbock that is a “Man U” bar that would have other Man U fans and the game on at 9:00am Saturday? If anyone knows of such a place, please let me know. TIA

Yep, another thread where I push booze on the masses.

Some fellow Red Raiders and RRS members have been kind enough to let our whiskey club crash their tailgate Saturday from about 11am to 2pm. We're taking the opportunity to offer up free whiskey tastings of all 3 of our barrel picks. Due to the tailgate size and the unpredictability of the weather we won't be offering any other beverages or food (unless there are some leftovers closer to gametime) but I'm happy to pour you and your friends a sample of each bottle and if you enjoy it I can pour you a glass however you like it. Neat, rocks, a splash of coke or maybe even an old fashioned. If you're inclined to become a member that would be great and we can get you bottles either on the spot or Sunday morning. If not it's ok too, it'll still be a good pit stop with good people.

The tailgate setup will be in the lot to the West of Memorial Circle and they typically try to set up on the corner near the Chemestry building (Boston and Memorial Circle intersection). Look for a black enclosed trailer with a TV on the side, a Double T canopy and a whiskey barrel.

11am-2pm. This is all weather permitting. I'm not standing in the rain to pour whiskey for you degenrates... I'll be drinking it myself under the canopy.

Waiting until the weekend to see if I need two nights or one night, but any recs on hotel/areas? Thanks in advance. I do like the Depot District area but can imagine rates could be higher
