Balancing Expectations

Joey McGuire is making some positive strides for us, even if the last game didn’t go as hoped. I would rather be 3 -1 than Baylor setting at 1 - 3. Enjoy the ride & progress and lets get ready for next week. As fans we have high hopes, especially when there’s potential in a team. Balancing those expectations with the reality of rebuilding or developing a program can be tough. Have a great Sunday & remember to enjoy the ride and appreciate each and everyday.

Really think we’ve already been left out

Future of CFB is already happening

Watched the end of Tennessee vs Bama
Bonkers crowd, crazy environment

Now sitting here watching Texas vs Georgia and everything just feels so different from watching Tech vs Baylor
Whole other level

The TV production is completely different
They had freakin Quavo opening up the intro
McConaughey on the sideline
Packed 120k stadium
Super Bowl lite feel on October 19th
Just feels gaudy

This is what they (the networks) wanted

I don’t know how it finally looks but Tech ain’t gonna be a part of this… this is NFL Junior. Not gonna shock me if these schools breakaway completely and soon.

Whatever the “second” division or lower level will look like, that’s where Tech will be.

Just hope they don’t change March Madness, at least the Big 12 owns that.

New world indeed

Will Post BU Thrashing History Repeat?

After BU whipped our ass and out-coached the ever-living shit out of us in '22 we went on the road to TCU and lost. Difference here in '24 is that we don't follow @TCU this year with a middling yet feisty KU bunch at home. We go on the road to Ames, IA to face their best team ever that is in the top 10.

Question: Hypothetically speaking - what will your sentiment be in just 14 short days from now, if your beloved Reds are 5-4(3-3) and have shown in 3 straight games that they cant compete against a legitimate Big XII Team?

This isn’t rocket science…

College football success depends on two factors…
(1) 50% coaching
(2) 50% recruiting

When a team gets beat 59-35 by 2-4 Baylor at home, I’d say the problem was both.

Let’s face it, recruiting has obviously been over-rated. If I’m wrong, then the coaching part is a major problem. If I’m right, then the lack of talent is also a coaching (recruiting) problem.

It’s repeatedly been said that in year 3 for this staff, we should not be lacking in talent.
I agree with this.

The point is that coaches have to get their team ready to play and if they don’t, they are failing. If after three years we don’t have enough talent to prevent getting embarrassed by Baylor, the coaches are failing.

Football is won in the trenches. It appears Tech is woefully lacking in line talent, and the coaches are responsible.

Things aren’t going to get any easier with Iowa State and Colorado coming up. Losing to TCU next week will be another failure in a season that could quickly go down the drain.

Coaching or recruiting, it’s on Joey.

How it seems

We are only good enough to win by the skin of our teeth, but are bad enough to get the ever living shit kicked out of us.

I don’t complain about winning close games and I’m not into style points. But it seems under this coaching regime we will either win a close one or get our doors blown off. I know there have been a few exceptions, but we seem to really lack the ability to beat a decent team handily.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss, no matter the score. But it makes me wonder if we haven’t put too much positive spin on being able to win close games. Why do we only win close games? And when we lose, why are we not also losing close games? Not great being in year 3 and having such a low ceiling and a bottomless basement floor.

Classic Trap Game in every sense...

And we fell in head first with our fat little girlfriends.

Don't overreact. It happens. It sucks, but it happens.

Several existing posts have stated the obvious.

Kenny Perry's ST were, special to the tune of -17 points and at least 20 yards in penalties.

Defense got worse as the game went on, which surprised me. TD is the one coach on staff I felt could win the chess game. He got smoked. Daring Baylor to run made sense, but it failed miserably.

Both lines got smoked.

Baylor's record is a little deceiving based on who they've played. Bad news a couple of those teams are still on our schedule.

Zach Kittley vs Good Defensive Coordinators

LISTEN

Our defense is what it is. Completely inept at the defensive line. Slow at LB and mediocre in the secondary. Equals close to worst if not worst in the league.

Special teams was shit in the first half. Bares mentioning and is a legitimate point.

BUT

This team’s success is 100% about what we do on offense. And if there is a legitimate defensive coordinator on the other side of Zach Kittley, this team HAS ALWAYS BEEN and WILL CONTINUE TO BE ****ED.

He is not a football coach. He’s an analyst. He’s not a football coach. He’s a dweeb. He has zero feel and the hotter the competition gets the more he fades.

DeRuyter didn’t get out coached today, he got out manned.

Zach Kittley got taken to little boys football coaching clinic school by Dave Aranda.

The day we separate ourselves from Zach Kittley and go get a bonafide play caller and experienced football man, is the day we give ourselves a legitimate chance to do something here.

Until then, we will look good against inferiors and mediocre to incompetent against any team with a pulse.
