OT: Lubbock Contractors for post-fire remodel/repairs

All,

About 2 months ago, my rental in Tech Terrace caught fire.

I plan to more or less gut the house to the studs. I'm looking for recommendations in a few areas: (1) someone who I can consult with on design and/or layout changes; (2) someone who can help oversee the work; and (3) various contractors.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for contractors that I should consider. I appreciate your help.

Texas Public Education funding.

Report now puts Texas at 44th in the nation in funding per student. Coincides with the continuing decline in scores as Texas approaches the level of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. It's a freaking embarrassment and a self fulfilling prophesy by our state legislature and governor to insure that school choice is adopted. We try to appease teachers by giving them a raise but that hasn't stopped the decline of certified teachers in classrooms with school districts being forced to cut back on everything. Biggest job in the state government should be giving our children an equal footing. Instead, Abbott and Paxton keep focusing on lawsuits and turmoil. Some big donors are gonna be happy when they get these educating tax vouchers for the wealthy.

RECRUITING: JUCO defensive tackle Perry Cole talks Red Raiders, recruitment - pres. by Chocolate Milk

Spoke to recent JUCO offer Perry Cole about his recruitment. As for his weight, he lists himself at 290 but the TVCC site says 255. He’s probably closer to 290 if I had to bet but I’ll stick to the official team measurement until it gets updated.

RECRUITING: OL Nelson McGuire high on Texas Tech following weekend visit

McGuire, who committed to Minnesota two weeks ago, visited Texas Tech over the weekend and announced his decommitment from the Golden Gophers yesterday morning. Was able to catch up with him for the latest.

Jalon Peoples

Surely he’s not one of the best two corners on the team, right? I suspect he’s starting because he’s from Cedar Hill & Joey’s close with his family. He shouldn’t see the field on another meaningful snap this year after tonight’s showing. With that said, considering Horn’s on the other side, I’m worried the other options aren’t much better. McIvor had over 200 yards in just 4 of his 11 starts last season in FCS, yet he went for 500 & 3 TDs tonight vs. a power conference team. Who else can play CB on this team?

San Diego Info

Wazzou is vital. But this currently vitaler....

Taking wifey to San Diego for surprise bday trip. I cant afford it, but going anyway, so charge it up baby!

Observation on JM comments

Joey said something to the effect of the defense winning 2 scrimmages they had in fall and he was surprised at the results from Saturday. I guess my question is, did they win the scrimmages because ZK’s offense scheme sucks? It seemed Saturday to be clicking from what I was able to see and I do think the skill players are MUCH better this year. But, last year it seemed everything was an outside deep shot that was poorly disguised or a run. I have no offense acuity, but I think the play calling seems bland. Maybe I’m wrong?

Just because I had to know

I don't get paid to do this anymore, but I just had to see what went wrong Saturday. I rewatched all the defensive snaps, the offense is pretty much the same story with better talent, but the defensive performance made no sense while watching in the stadium. While ACU wasn't doing anything wild, it didn't seem like we could ever get lined up right, seemed like we were confused all game, and both of those factors caused us to play super slow. I didn't think it was really a personnel issue in the secondary that is, the defensive line absolutely is, just bad scheme/preparation. Don't get me wrong, there were some nightmare performances from the DBs, but it's hard to separate that from the complete lack of scheme.

First Half:

- So many times the play was over before the snap, alignment all wrong. A few of McIvor's incompletions came from him having too many options presnap and he overthought it.

- The secondary was basically never on the same page, most common problem seemed to be our underneath guys were playing cover 2 while only having one safety behind them. I have no idea how it's possible for this to happen as many times as it did.

- I'm honestly not sure the entire back seven were on the same page one time in first half.

- The few times a same side corner/safety seemed to be on the page with cover 2, the jamming/rerouting was horrific. Safeties never stood a chance.

- D Line is a total and complete disaster. I was watching their o line warmup before the game and texted @B. Golan and @4O9to8O6Nback "if we can't move these guys when we want we should be very worried." Consider me worried!

Second Half:

- More of the same, I seriously have never seen a secondary be more lost. I need an explanation, it's from the very first play!

- DEs/OLBs better in second half, problem is the DTs are so bad McIvor could always step up. Zero inside pressure.

- Horn and Lewis were better, but that might only be in comparison to Peoples and Baskerville.

- The DBs just kind of lost their matchups all night. I wouldn't jump to season long conclusions about that, it could be a lot of things, but it ain't good.

- LB play was worse than usual because they basically spent all of presnap trying to get the secondary right

- I mean, the secondary will get better just out of all of them running the same play. You can say what you want about this staff, they've never shown to be this unprepared, so I'll expect this aspect to improve by Saturday and chalk this up to a, incredibly disturbing, fluke.

After all this my biggest concerns are the DLine, because I don't think it can be fixed, Morton/Offensive Scheme, because it has zero flow or, frankly, sense to it, and the penalties, Mcguire usually has those things pretty tight, this could show some regression.

Side note: there's an element to a game like that that makes me glad to have a guy like McGuire at the helm because ACU should have won and would have won with some aggresiveness late in the game. They let us off the hook, a McGuire team would not have done that with roles reversed. The tiniest of silver linings I realize haha

Vegas hotels

I'm considering a trip to Vegas for the concours car show at the Wynn. Typically we stay at the Wynn but not only are prices pretty high, it felt not quite as nice or welcoming the last time we went so I'm considering Resorts World or Fountainbleu (maybe Circa, but I''d much rather be on the strip) . all 3 are newer, less expensive and just as nice from what I can tell. Location isn't a huge factor for me because while we do usually walk the strip a time or 2, we uber to dinners and shows most of the time. But again, I'd prefer to be on the strip because that's where the car show is, dinners will be and the vast majority of everything else we will be doing too. If it's all a wash we'll probably stick with the WYnn and check the others out for future reference, but if anyone has rave reviews about one of these other 3 hotels I'd love to hear it.

Also, any recs on good restaurants/bars that have opened in the last 2-3 years would be helpful. We've done Mayfair, Delilah, most of the steakhouses, Robuchon, Le Cirque, but if there's something new and good, especially in one of the resorts above, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Lowered expectations = sanity

I think we’re overreacting here. I certainly understand why it’s happening. I think it’s a confluence of events that combined has created this sick feeling of despair.

Let’s face it.. We are a longtime suffering fan base that has tasted less success than all of our current contemporaries. We have had our hopes and expectations built up many times before only to have the rug pulled out from under us. Joey McGuire masterfully built all of our expectations, but we were easy marks. Watching TCU, Baylor and OSU play in championship games has made us desperate and gullible.

Saturday night was an abomination. The “W” doesn’t take away from the fact that our team was matched in every aspect by a historically underperforming FCS team. Our coaches were out coached and our athletes looked no better than there’s.

The reality of it is, this team is still behind the Utah’s, Kansas St’s and Oklahoma State’s. We don’t have the athletes we thought we did. Especially on defense.

I still think Joey McGuire is the best answer to help us become a Big 12 leader. I believe in his vision. Unfortunately, it will take him longer than he expected. Longer than we had hoped. It sucks. I can’t imagine we win more than 7 or 8 games this year. I am emotionally prepared to lose this coming Saturday. If we do somehow win, I will be happy. I’m not going anywhere. I will continue watch the games, support the program and hope we surpass my now reasonable expectations.
