Cliff Notes... TEXAS SUCKS

Texas Tech leaders press UT on future non-conference schedule

Don Williams

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal | USA TODAY NETWORK

In September 2021, Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt said he and Texas AD Chris Del Conte had discussed the idea of the Red Raiders and the Longhorns continuing to play in all sports, especially football, for 20 to 25 years after UT leaves the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference.

Not only did they discuss it, Hocutt said, but UT leadership affirmed they would work with Tech to make sure the football series played annually since 1960 would continue.

A year later, Tech officials are anxious that there’s been no movement on that front. They say they believe UT leaders have told Longhorn alumni groups that there are no plans to continue a series with Tech.

My son’s first game

I will be taking my son Graham to his first football game this weekend. He just turned 6 and we will be leaving the Austin area tomorrow morning. I need to freshen up our Tech attire. What are the best places that will have a selection for kids and adults?

We plan on getting in mid afternoon and I am going to show him the campus and prairie dog town of course. Any must do’s for a 6 year old? Maybe going to hit up Spanky’s. We are staying in an air bnb in Tech Terrace.

Students Showed Out Again and STAYED

Student section was basicallly 100% and stayed full for much of the game. This is the type of game where as a student, the experience becomes a habit. People bitching about them rushing the field, who cares. We beat a ranked team at home in double OT. Let the kids have fun, which is something football hasn’t brought much of lately. Like Coach McGuire said, this is a BRAND game. Find a way to win. Regardless of the NC State outcome, The Jones will be ROCKING on September 24th for UT. And I can’t wait to see how wild the student section is. Wreck Em and Long Live the Matadors.

And as always, eff UT and Chris Beard.

Im still waiting

To see our size mismatch at receiver and TE help us win. Maybe it is harder than I am thinking it is to utilize that mismatch?

One of Smith's picks last night, the last one, I felt was partially on the receiver. I forget who it was...maybe Loic. Smith floated it out there and it was on the money. But you had the safety coming over the top. He jumped for the ball, but Loic didn't. If Loic high points that ball, we are still in business. I am not complaining, or trying to blame anyone for how close this game was. I don't think it had to be that close. But I think that had to do with young, very talented, players making mistakes all over the field.

Someone much smarter than me, this should be an easy ask, please correct me if I am wrong. I have seen the mismatch come into play, but it doesn't seem as though it happens in big moments. I would think it is an easy go-to for ball control on 3rd down.

Houstonlaxman's 10 Bold Predictions

Since @A. Dickens has let us down I made my own 10 Bold Predictions. I figure since his hit rate was barely .500 how hard can it be.

For the second year in a row neither ut or ou will be in the B12 Championship game. Last year broke a 15 year streak of either ut or ou being in the big 12 championship game marking only the 3rd time in 19 years that one of them were not in the championship game.

Tyler slough will start every game for Tech this year. Not since Patrick Mahomes 2016 campaign has a game one QB starter started every game. In the past 10 years (or decade of suck) we have only had 3 seasons the same QB started each game. (Seth 2012 & Mahomes 2015,2016)

Tech will snap its 6-game losing streak to K-State. Tech will win for the first time in Manhattan since 2008 snapping Tech’s 6 game losing streak against K-State.

For the first time since 1998 OU will loose to both ut and osu in the same season. While Ou fans are happy to say bye to TBOW, they will struggle this trying to find their footing under 1st year head coach Venables.

A end of season loss to LSU loss will keep atm from playing in the SEC Championship game. Atm will be in the drivers seat for the SEC championship game but will lose a close game to LSU keeping them out of the title game.

This season uh will play 3 future B12 opponents and only win one game. UH will play both KU and TTU in nonconference and appear in the AAC Championship game against Cincy.

Tech will finish the year with a top 25 Recruiting class. While this may not seem that bold since Tech currently has the 18th ranked class consider in the past 20 years Tech has only had 2 top 25 classes (2006-25 & 2011-20) and in the past 10 years only last years class (39) no class has been in the top 40 with two classes being 74 (‘18) & 82(’21).

TCU will have back to back loosing seasons for the first time since 96-97. First year coach Sonny Dykes will have a rough adjustment to the B12and will suffer multiple double digit losses

Kansas will not finish at the bottom of the B12 this year. Since 2009 Kansas has had the worst record every year with the exception of ISU’s 2014 season.

Tech will only lose one game by more than 2 possessions. With the exception of one game Tech will be within 2 scores of victory in every loss this year.

RECRUITING: Commit reactions to Texas Tech's 33-30 win over Houston

Got some quick thoughts from the commits. Will have more in depth reaction from visitors and such tomorrow.
