OT: what are you going to do on the off weekend?

Wife and I are newly empty nesters. I’ve been wanting to see some live music here lately so we’re headed to Houston this coming weekend to see Band of Horses and The Black Keys. I honestly can’t wait and hope it’s as good or better than I expect. Just got me to thinking, what are other RRS braintrust doing since our beloved team is off this weekend?

70% Drop in Wildlife Populations in 50 years

Per the Living Planet Report by the World Wildlife Fund (full report here, article about it here)

This is happening to some extent everywhere through deforestation, habitat loss, etc, but most heavily in Latin America, which has seen a 94% drop in wildlife populations in 50 years. Yikes.

Mainly wanted to pose the question:
Is there not something the rest of humankind can do to get Brazil to stop the bulldozing of the Amazon? Since the Amazon Rainforest is such a crucial part of the worldwide biodome, you’d think Earth could get the Brazilian gov and/or Brazilian companies to do something about it

OT: Tech professor BS (ANOTHER UPDATE with proud dad flex)

UPDATE #2: Jacob just received a pre-match offer from Texas Tech Medical School!!!!!! LETSSSSSSSS FUGGGGGINNNN GOOOOOOOOOOOOI!!!!!! 10/15/2022

UPDATE: Jacob skipped the class, took the MCAT, and nailed it. 509 on his first attempt, 75th percentile nationwide, and the average score of med school applicants who are admitted. BOOM!!! 🥲

My son is set to graduate from Tech in spring ‘23. He’s a kinesiology pre-med major, currently maintaining a 3.96+ GPA.

He signed up for next week’s MCAT months ago. He’s been studying his ass off, and appears to be well-prepared to kill it on his first attempt.

Due to the vagaries of filling out an upper class schedule, he wound up in a Thursday lab for one of his kinesiology courses. Next Thursday is the day of the MCAT— 8 hours long.

When he saw there would be a conflict, he approached his professor. He didn’t ask to skip the class— he simply requested the professor’s permission to attend a different lab session next week.

The professor told him he’d have to choose— attend his regularly scheduled lab that day, or accept an unexcused absence and a 0 for that day. A 0 will guarantee that he can’t make an A in that lab for the semester.

This is bullshit. What recourse does Jacob have?

I watched a lot of football yesterday

and I came away scratching my head (dandruff 😱)? No, I don’t think so. In several of the games, and especially the USC/Utah game the TE was greatly used. He was used in the short passing game that typically earned a first down and the intermediate passing game that typically gained about 15. He used his body (6’4”, 240) to shield the db, and his hands were strong. Very reliable and durable. Reminded me a lot of Cupp, except he was targeted and Cupp, as well as our other two TE’s typically are not.

Ok, we need to beat the snot out of TCU and take over that dump of a stadium when we play them.

I'm actually glad TCU won just because we still have an outside shot at the title if we can win out (and I truly think we can win or lose any game left on the schedule -- this team seems like a finisher instead of folding like the teams we've seen recently).

Can wait to be at the game next weekend and see the start of what could be a great run for us.

I don't hate TCU as much as most people on this board but it's going to be a nauseating week of hearing about them this week. Makes me kinda wish we were playing them next week but I really want to go 6-0 starting next week. Maybe it's not probable, but it's definitely possible since we've already played the roughest stretch.

Big 12 race is wide open and a blast to watch unfold.

Most had BU and OU leading the way followed by OSU and KSU.
Now OU has 3 losses and BU 2 and it's only 1/2 over.
The TCU win over OSU lets KSU/TCU play in a battle of the last unbeatens.
KSU has TCU, OSU, UT and BU the next 4 games. Good luck with that.
TCU has UT and TT. Good luck with that too.
UT goes to OSU this weekend and someone is leaving the stadium with 2 losses.
OSU has UT, KSU, KU, and Bedlam. UGH.
UT is looking at OSU, KSU, TCU, KU and BU. Ugh, Ugh, Ugh.
Count on BU upsetting one, or two, or more.
You could argue that TT has the easiest path, and only 2 are road games.
If TT defends the Jones the next two weeks, it makes TCU our biggest game in years.
Tiebreakers will be huge and It's very possible, if not likely, that the 2nd place finisher
will have 3 losses this year.
Reminds me of TT tying 4 teams in the SWC and going to the Cotton Bowl.
Don't mention what happened when we got there.
