Gameday Notes From Tucson

Been out here since Thursday golfing and such. Just got back from the game. Thought I'd share some mental notes I had from my experience there.

- Arizona is a solid addition to the B12. Their stadium is a bit outdated but has a great "traditional" feel. Their fans showed up and weren't too obnoxious but would trade the friendly jab or banter if the opportunity presented itself. They were very complimentary and wished us luck the rest of the season.

- Their crowd was a C to a B- from my perspective. Many fans left at half but the ones who stayed got loud when the tides started to shift. They are definitely not a football school but I could see them continuing to be competitive in the future.

- All that being said, I can't overstate how lucky we are to have the stadium and game day environment we have. @Robert G and team have created a real home field advantage and compared to what Arizona put out there, it wasn't even close. The Jones is a special venue. The new teams who have experienced it have said as much. We should all be very proud and thankful of how it has evolved and what it has become.

Wreck Em!

That was a BIG BOY W!

I don’t think it can be overstated that it was a big step forward. I’m sure there will be too many posts like this, but The Brand is really starting to be a thing. We can win the rock fights.

We held them to 1 TD, 5 FGs on 6 attempts, 1 failed 4th down, 2 ints and a fumble…most of that while our defense kept drawing the short stick with our offense unable to extend drives.

Offense really struggled for most of the night, just not really able to establish a good rhythm. Then, when it mattered most, we put a great drive together to reclaim the lead and followed it up with a game deciding TD.

Haters be gone. 5-1, 3-0…The Brand is ALIVE

Halfway point

Before the year started, seems like most hoped we would go 5-0 with a tough one to win against WSU and then head to Arizona in a game that, at the time, was expected to be against a Top 25 team. Clearly we weren't competitive against WSU so that was frustrating and Arizona isn't quite what they were expected to be, but I think any Tech fan would have taken 5-1 at this point no questions asked.

However, we are in a better spot than we would have been beating WSU and losing to Arizona because we are 3-0 in the Big 12.

Now comes a much needed bye to get some guys back and then the chance to become bowl eligible against Baylor at home. I can't imagine we aren't a strong favorite. Then we have to go to TCU. Road games are an adventure for us, but I think we will still likely be the favorite. Then the ISU and Colorado games will likely determine exactly how far the season goes, but we are in a really great position at this point.

Not bad for a team many said would struggle to win 3 games after the first week or two.
