A little venting…

I just cannot believe that offensive performance.

Defense held WSU 3/12 on 3rd down.

Gave up just 115 passing yards.

Had more first downs than them.

Ran nearly 20 more plays than them.

But lost by 21.

Offense put the defense in a massive bind from the 2nd quarter on. Defense was stellar in the 1st quarter and I thought generally played more than well enough to win the game. Huge turnaround by the D from the previous week overall.

But the offense was the opposite and probably 90% of the reason for the loss tonight.

The offense was sloppy, poor execution, poor penalties all night. Playcalling seemed very scatterbrained. No cohesive gameplan other than being committed to the screen game early.

At the beginning of the game, it seemed like we were completely committed to airing it out all night with the run game as an afterthought, which got us in some binds on the early drives with incompletions and short yardage calls where we could’ve/should’ve run it. Then after the first few drives, it was like a titanic shift in gameplan, started running it a ton for a few drives. Just doesn’t give me confidence in a well-thought, logical gameplan.

I just don’t understand the playcalling at times. A well executed play that leads to a short yardage 2nd down or a first down often doesn’t have a sequential, logical play to follow. For example, can’t remember the exact play in the first half, but we had 2nd and short in the red zone, and the next play is a screen with Drae McCray as your lead blocker, and play got blown up for a loss. Why run a screen there with your smallest receiver lead blocking?

On 4th and short, the third time we ran Conyers in wildcat, we ran outside with a true freshman RB as the lead blocker. Seems like a bad idea, to put a true freshman in that spot out on an island in his second game ever in college after barely playing in the first game. I love Dickey and think he’s going to be a killer tailback for us, but that’s a tall ask of him less than 30 snaps into his college career.

Why did we not go to quick hitting crosser routes to our really athletic WRs who are great in space before late in the game? We instead decided to spend the first half throwing screen screen screen, maybe a random deep shot, screen. Where was the intermediate passing game?

It just seems like a lot of the playcalling is like throwing a dart at a board. As @T. Beadles has said, it seems like we run a collection of plays and not an offense.

Morton had an awful night. Airmailed all his deep throws, seemed too amped up for the game, a ton of misreads and obviously bad decisions. 4th down sprint out with the out route, threw it too late, or if you’re going to hold it, you have to then commit to running for the first down until the DB bites and you can throw it over him. INT he threw where he airmailed it over a wide open Josh Kelly was just a really sloppy throw. Just a couple of examples, but he looked lost and anxious the entire night. The OL was rough in some spots I definitely don’t blame Morton for, but he made plenty of awful decisions on his own. I don’t know why he was so bad, but I have my thoughts about his development and lack of progress. He seems skittish, and I don’t know if that’s a coaching issue, injury phantoms chasing him down, or all the above. I just don’t see the confidence I saw from him as a freshman or even at times last year. I’d rather see the risky gunslinger making plays and hanging it all out there than what we’re seeing right now.

Something has gotta change and change FAST. You have too much great skill on this offense to be playing like you did tonight.

It’s time to hire Briles

I know, I know but it’s time to look out for numero uno. Let him hire some great young coordinators that he can develop and let’s go win some fu cking football games. Yea, i am past the point of caring about his past. Let’s have a redemption tour! First 10 win season and everybody will want to sign him to a lifetime contract . Wreck’em!

Aggie road woes worse than TTU

Means nothing but enjoyed reading this today:

Texas A&M’s most recent road win came on Oct. 16, 2021 over Missouri. The Aggies won that game 35-14. Since then, they’ve lost 10 consecutive road games. Nine of those 10 losses have come to SEC opponents: Ole Miss (twice), LSU (twice), Mississippi State, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. The other road loss came to Miami in nonconference play last September.

Blame the Ghost of Mike Leach

The Mike Leach love fest at Wazzu was in full effect. I think I saw a Jobu shrine with some rum and a live chicken shit in the south endzone while I was looking for a place to piss Saturday night.

Oregon State and Wazzu are both 2-0 and the voodoo ghost of pac12 is working overtime to punish Big12 for not taking those fvckers.

P.S. Pullman is a shit show that takes all the bad of College Station and Waco and mixes them with everything Amarillo. A trifecta of nothing.

2025 Top WR's and their stats (through 2-3 games)

SIAP or SFAP = figured this was interesting to write out if not done so already. Glanced in the unfollow thread but didn't see much on it apologies if so or elsewhere.

Out of the 3 main recruiting websites, here’s the following 5 stars in front of or behind (depending on the site) along with other top wide receiver prospects in rankings at the WR position with their stats through 2 games:

  • - Jeremiah Smith, OSU (On3 - 1(1), 247 - 1(1), Rivals - 1(1))
    • 11 Rec 211yds, 3td
  • - Cam Coleman, AUB (On3 - 2(4), 247 - 2(5), Rivals - 3(7))
    • 4 rec 115yds, 1td
  • - Ryan Williams, Bama (On3 - 3(5), 247 3(8), Rivals 2(4))
    • 6 rec 207yds, 3td
  • Micah Hudson, Tech (On3 - 4(12), 247 - 5(25), Rivals 4(9))
    • 1 rec 4yds
  • TJ Moore, Clem (On3 - 5(23), 247 - 4(21), Rivals - 9(43)
    • 4 rec 51yds, 1td
  • Mike Matthews, Tenn (On3 - 6(26). 247 - 9(40), Rivals - 5(30))
    • Currently injured - 0/0
  • Gatlin Bair, Ore (On3 - 7(30). 247 - 10(43), Rivals - 14(56)
    • Mission trip - 0/0
  • Ryan Wingo, Texas (On3 - 8(38), 247 - 7(32), Rivals - 11(48)
    • 4 rec 70yds, 1 rush 55yds
  • Bryant Wesco, Clem (On3 - 13(69), 247 - 11(57), Rivals 17(75)
    • 4 rec 135yds, 1td

Just a good start, some other top receivers have not played yet like Perry Thompson at Auburn it appears ( and I can go furhter in-depth if need be on high 4's and other wide receivers who have played across the nation) - but you get the picture and overall just. Now Micah was injured and had an offseason surgery that kept him out of spring, but flashed and looked good according to our staff in the Fall. 1 for 4yds so far through the 2 games we have had offensively, just isn't sitting right. We're the only school sitting a 5 star it appears to adjust more and let seniority play like Coy or others. That seems like a HS thought process, of seniority or just the inability to get creative. Crazy!

What say you?

What would it take for the university to part with McGuire?

It's one thing for message boards to scream for a change, and quite another for an administation to do so. I'm very slow to get on the fire-the-coach bandwagon because that always seems to be the knee-jerk reaction and often you can't fire your way to prosperity. I'm trying not to be the prisoner of the moment, but this is not working. The 2022 season was a mirage by going 3-0 in OT games and winning another with two goal line stands. Red flags were up last year that gave a lot of us pause, and now this debacle through two games which is bad on a level not seen even here in a long time.

What would it take for Kirby, Schovenec and the regents to move off McGuire? They BADLY want this to work. Hell, we all do. Extremely likeable, enthusasitic, initially able to recruit at a level not seen. Money was flowing in, facilities were being built, ticket sales were great. Everything but the wins. From my viewpoint, there's no way out of this mess. McGuire's strength, connections to HS coaches and recruiting, has been neutered by NIL. The last few months have shown that.

But what does the administration see and this is without factoring in the buyout of which the amount I don't know. I think it would take damn near Armageddon to move at the end of this year. Even then, it's probably removing Kittley and not much more. That's just a desperation move because what OC is going to come in for maybe one year, and then not able to bring in his entire offensive staff.

Maybe others see it differently, and I'd like to hear other opinions, but I don't think there's a change no matter how bad it gets until at least after the 2025 season. I don't think they have the stomach for it and want to give this every chance to work when clearly it is not and odds are great that it won't.

WWMRD

Since Matt Rhule is such an idealize figure for JM, I’m curious what his approach would be to this season. I have a hard time believing he would put up with this offense. I know he’s a defensive minded guy as well, but I just don’t see him standing idly by waiting for the gimmick to produce. He’s a football guy, they know it’s not personal, it’s an ROI business. The offense isn’t producing, time to cut bait and start new. Hopefully JM is getting advice without rose colored glasses.

When was the last time…

When was the last time you were 100% content with a Texas Tech sport season?

Since we haven’t won a national championship in any major sports, there will be a feeling of wanting more until we win it all. But, what is a season we have had where you were content with the season as a whole?

I was sitting in my office today and realized I’ve never been content being a Texas Tech fan. Maybe I’m an asshole, but I don’t think I’ve ever been truly happy with a season.

***edit: Closest was 2019 MMB. Teary-eyed thinking about it again

Curious if churches in your area are doing this.

VA has early voting starting in two weeks and I have seen an uptick this past week of about 5ish churches doing a one time political sermon about the "Biblical perspective" for this upcoming election cycle (seeing post on nextdoor, facebook, mailers and ads). I think it is an interesting part where Pastors need to remind people that their identity is in Jesus and not a political party but I haven't seen this many churches do this before.

So I am curious if you are seeing this where you live

Joey vs Former Coaches Record

Record through 2 Seasons - Joey: 15-11, Wells: 8-14, Kingsbury: 12-13, Tuberville: 13-12, Leach: 14-11

There’s a lot more to be positive on with Joey. First 5 star player ever signed in the history of Texas Tech, beat OU and UT in the same season in his first season, back to back bowl games and wins, ACU game was sold out (can’t think of when we could even sell out a power 4 team in the last 10 years besides OU and UT) and much more.

I get that a lot of that was with Wells inherited players but if anything Joey’s guys are coming up. A lot of them this is their first full season starting in college football. They are learning. Give Joey some time to develop those players and get them on the field. Micah Hudson isn’t even fully ready to start. We are going in the right direction. We may need to make some changes but stick with Joey. I believe he will get us where we want to be. Just got to do something we as Tech fans don’t want to, be PATIENT. Unlike most of y’all think, you aren’t going to win 9 games easily in Lubbock quickly and you aren’t winning the Big 12 quickly, it takes time. Hell even Leach didn’t have a Big 12 trophy (just a division trophy) and it took him SIX YEARS to have a 9-3 season.

Keep your head up, it will all be good.

Wreck ‘em.

Putin Endorses Kamala Harris

"(Former US President Donald) Trump has imposed as many sanctions on Russia as any president has ever imposed before, and if Harris is doing well, perhaps she will refrain from such actions."

What’s going to change.

I’m so tired of being let down. I don’t want to get to the point to where I’m like I am with Dallas to were I expect nothing and I just don’t care. Difference between Dallas and tech is that I Love tech. I’m not a tech fan I am tech. So what the hell is going to change. I wish they would come out with a plan and come out with it yesterday. Like I don’t even know what to say anymore.
