The QB room?

Not sure if our coaching staff really believed it was as good as they said it was in fall camp or if the battle was as close between the 3 as portrayed, but I’m just not seeing it. I think our QB play is what cost us in both losses and almost cost us in two of our wins.

Donovan Smith’s play is erratic and puzzling. His processing of information is SLOW.. His instincts and decision making are questionable. He makes plays, but his inconsistencies are killing our offense.

Why would they not throw Morton into the fire and see what he has in his bag?

I expect we will see Morton in the transfer portal at season’s end if he isn’t given a chance under these circumstances. It will be a shame if we never see what his game could be. I hope like hell we don’t see it at a place like A&M

Punting

With all of the issues we have, this is the most surprising one. Another short one that didn’t net much. Then we had a long one where he hit 60 but didn’t look like he even tried to pin them deep, he just kicked it out of the end zone.

This is several games in a row where one of our best players looks awful. Would mechanics of a punter be something a new staff would come in and change?

Tua Head Injury

That injury that he just suffered was scary as hell. It almost looked like he was seizing up after having his head slammed down. Commentator said that was a neurological response to head trauma. I don’t see how he was even playing tonight after last week when it look like he had a concussion. Scary shit. As soon as I see a link to the video, I will post it.

Let's Chat About This One

Tough day in Manhattan. Again.

1. Donovan Smith now has 7 INT, 3 lost fumbles, and has taken 17 official sacks. I'm not sure there is a program on planet earth that could win games when you turn the ball over more frequently than any other QB in division 1 football. I'm not sure why Behren didn't play today. If I was him, I'd be making phone calls to every team out there with what we trotted out at QB today for 20 ish possessions.

2. The fact that this team clawed back into it is the difference for me. I've seen that movie before where we just crumble and they kept fighting back.

3. Defense did give up some really, really, back breaking runs to Martinez. But they were put in miserable situations all day today. 4 Turnovers and 2 failed 4th downs. And KSU got the ball on our side of the 50 yard line 5 TIMES to start drives.

4. I'll get called a lot of names, but there is no way on earth any other team gets calls against us like we do. KSU held on every play. Every play. They got called for 2 holdings today. 2.

5. Special Teams is losing football games. Kick OB, missed FG, running into the punter.... You can't let that continue to happen.

6. This defense needs help in a big way. You can't turn the ball over (essentially) 7 times in a football game and then be mad at the defensive side of the ball. Tahj Fumble was back breaking. The missed FG was horrific.

7. Our offensive line is worse than wet cardboard outside of Weston Wright. I still don't know how you go into each week knowing that's a weakness, and then still throw out a guy who clearly can't make quick decisions. I hope they're just trying to save Behren's RS and have communicated that to him while we hope to get Shough back.... but there isn't a defense for it otherwise.

I hope the Big 12 sends us another reprimand this week, because that crew was sooooooooooo bad.

- Stopped our 4th down play when we had not substituded.
- Stopped another long play because the play clock didn't start. That's a you problem.
- The inadvertent whistle is up there with the baylor fumble that wasn't... that's just horrific to miss.
- Donovan's helmet was nearly ripped off on the first drive right in front of the official.

I love the fight in this team and I love this defense. But man you have to wonder when you make the switch. Donovan had more carries today than Rod and Tahj.... again.

Game thread frustrations aside. I just wanna hear some thoughts.

KSU has turned the ball over twice this season. Twice. Donovan Smith throws an INT before the game starts each week.

Underthrown Passes

Xavier came back to catch that next to last offensive play...BUT, the pass was underthrown. X was pulling away and behind the S, and a well thrown go route would have been 6. This is not the first time this year that has happened. As a matter of fact, most of the deep passes end up being underthrown.

I'm ready for Behren to get his chance too...maybe split time with D. He may have his faults, but no more than Donovan has. And he is quicker and more likely to make good deep throws.

Not shocking to lose in Manhattan

I think KState is the better overall team, but man it sucks to lose like this.

-Tahj Brooks fumble
-Donovan fumble
-2 Donovan picks
-2 failed 4th downs on your side of the field
-171 yards on the ground to Martinez
-170 yards on the ground to Deuce
-4 or 5 50+ yard plays
-Caleb Rogers continuing to play like an FCS Honorable Mention guy
-Looks like Price went down with a high ankle sprain

We shot ourselves in the foot at every turn. We need someone to protect the ball and make plays and Donovan seems to prefer to give the ball to the other team. When he plays within the reigns of the offense, he’s fine to good. When he is bad, it’s back breaking, game changing levels of bad. His floor is the lowest of any QB on this team.

Gear up, get our shit back together and go kick Xerox U in the dick. Pray we get one more game of good Donovan before Shough makes it back.
