Okay, I spoke with Tyrone Johnson, Tyron’s father again this morning, and he shared with me the thought process that he and his son are going through in regards to picking out a new school.
“We are looking for a school with good academics, and we just want to surround him with good people. That’s the main thing. We just want to surround him with the best people. The right school, with the right fit, and the right people.”
Johnson also mentioned offense as a big priority.
“That’s one of the main things we are looking for (offensive style) in regards to his decision. We want to go to a place that throws the ball.”
I asked Mr. Johnson about schools such as Kansas – which he was very lukewarm about – as well as a school like Miami (previous relationship with UGA coaching staff) and he also didn't sound too enthused. I then asked him about a school like Oklahoma State being “at the top” of the list.
“There is no top and bottom. It is just the best school that is the best fit for him. We are going to figure out what situation is best for him and that is where he will go. There is no top and bottom. I’ve seen those things, too (about Oklahoma State) but I don’t know how they got started.”
I also asked him about the possibility of a school like Texas Tech.
“He did really like Texas Tech a lot coming out. We are going to most definitely try and give them a good look, too. We are not ruling out any possibilities, though. I mean even the junior college route is a possibility. We are just trying to figure it out right now, that’s it.”
He also offered up some positive comments on Kingsbury, as well.
“Everything is good with Coach Kliff, everything is real good with Coach Kliff. I haven’t spoken to him yet, but things are real good.”
In regards to his transfer, Johnson said promises of a more open offense went unfulfilled which is what led to the transfer. He said that they gave the hometown school a chance and it didn't work out.
Johnson and his dad have a short time frame to get things sorted out and they have had plenty of suitors already try and reach out. However, even with a lot of suitors, the list is small.
“We are going to narrow it down and figure it out, but it isn’t going to be a wide margin of schools. Location was a factor when he went to LSU, but it isn’t a factor anymore.”
Those were the real details of the conversation, and we will keep y'all updated as we get more info.
