**Reminder that FCS games and garbage-time possessions are not included in these numbers***

Offensive Points Per Drive:

Texas Tech - 2.24 points per offensive possession. 64th in the country.
(conf only) - 2.53 points per drive. 5th in the conference. From "second to last" in the Big 12 to "top 5" in one week.

Iowa State - 1.6 points per offensive possession. 105th in the country
(conf only) - 1.53 points per drive. Last in the conference... by a lot.

Tech's 3-week run of playing one of the best offenses in the country finally ends.

Offensive TD Percentage:

Texas Tech - 27% of possessions end with a TD play. 66th in the country.
(conf only) - 30.2% of conference possessions result in TDs. 6th in the conference.

Iowa State - 18.6% of possessions end with a TD play. 105th in the country. This is so bad. The only P5 teams worse play in the Big 10 where awful football is celebrated.
(conf only) - 17.5% of drives have been TDs. Last in the conference... by a lot.

Look at how big of a gap there is between last in the conference (Iowa State) and 6th (us). We are almost twice as likely to score a TD per big 12 drive.

Offensive Turnover Percentage:

Texas Tech - 14.8% of possessions end with a turnover. 110th in the country.
(conf only) - 12.8% of possessions end with a turnover. 7th in the conference.

Iowa State - 16.7% of possessions end with a turnover. 126th in the country.
(conf only) - 16.3% of conf possessions are turned over. Last......

Not only is Iowa State's offense bad at being an offense, they also have terrible turnover luck.

Offensive Yards Per Play:

Texas Tech - 5.23 yards per play. 94th in the country.

Iowa State - 4.88 yards per play. 110th in the country.

This is how you arrive at a total in the 40s...

Yards Gained per Big 12 Drive:

Texas Tech - 36.3 yards per drive. 5th in the conference.

Iowa State -- 30.4 yards gained per drive. 9th in the conference.

To call this Iowa State offense bad would be the understatement of the year. It's one of the worst non-Kansas offense that we've played in a conference game since at least that 2020 Baylor offense, but I'd have that Baylor group ahead of them by quite a bit. They really are that bad.

However, losing a Tyree is as big of a blow as our defense could possiby take. That evens the playing field tremendously.

Defensive Points Per Drive:

Texas Tech - 2.32 points allowed per possession. 76th in the country.
(conf only) - 2.54 points allowed per drive. 6th in the conference.

Iowa State - 1.49 points allowed per possession. 10th in the country. Top 10 in the country is pretty, pretty good.
(conf only) - 1.66 points allowed per drive. 1st in the conference.... by a lot

Defensive TD Percentage:

Texas Tech - 25.9% of possessions end with opponents running a TD play. 55th in the country.
(conf only) - 30.2% of conf. opponents' possessions are TDs. 6th in the league.

Iowa State - 17.8% of possessions end with opponents running a TD play. 12th in the country.
(conf only) - 20% of drives end with opponent TD. Best in the conference.

Defensive Turnover Percentage:

Texas Tech - 12% of opponents' possessions end with a turnover. 52nd in the country.
(conf. only) - 10.8% -- 6th in the conference.

Iowa State - 11.9% of opponents' possessions end with a turnover. 54th in the country.
(conf. only) - 7.5% -- 9th in the conference.

Defensive Yards Per Play:

Texas Tech - 5.8 yards allowed per play. 72nd in the country. Massive drop here after last week.

Kansas - 4.73 yards allowed per play. 12th in the country.

Yards Allowed per Big 12 Drive:

Texas Tech - 36 yards per drive. 7th in the conference.

Iowa State -- 25.7 yards allowed per drive. Best in the conference by a big margin.

There is no doubt that this will be the toughest test all year for our offense -- the venue, the weather, the team we're playing... it's going to be tough sledding. Strangely, Iowa State has put up all these incredible defensive numbers without the benefit of positive turnover luck.

Having looked at these numbers + the loss of Tyree, it definitely makes sense that we are underdogs Saturday to a team with absolutely no pulse on offense. This will be an absolute slog of a game. First team to 24 points probably wins.

Ryan left it all out on the field in everything he did. In his honor, we bring you Fields of Gold, so that others facing bone cancer can keep on playing. A portion of proceeds from every case sold is donated to The Little Warrior Foundation.
