Theory on QB Starter

I've been racking my brain since Saturday as to why KK insisted on starting Mahomes no matter how hurt and incapable he was against WV. I'm not saying don't let him try, but after the 1st series, it was obvious he didn't have his stuff. And I think his insistence on playing him hurt team moral.

I think we've all agreed KK seems like a reasonably intelligent guy, and his knowledge of offense and ability to coach QB's is beyond questioning. But why does he not play a very capable back up when the starter is obviously hurting your team as he did last weekend? I have comprised the following theory in an attempt to salvage my own sanity, and I want to see what the board thinks.

We've all lamented over the years that Texas Tech QB's are labeled as "system" QB's no matter how talented or productive they may be, and we've all been perplexed why Pat doesn't get more positive press for his great and record setting performances (even though he'd get more press if we had a defense and actually WON games).

My theory is that KK is willing to ride with a hurt Pat because he doesn't want Shimonek to step in with his rocket arm and great footwork and perform at a high level thus taking the spot light off his heralded starter. Win or lose, Shimonek being successful would only feed the misplaced assertions that our QB's aren't good players but are a product of a "system". Remember this is a perception KK was the first to have to endure at the start of the Leach Air Raid at TTU.

Flame away, but I'm going with this as the basis of KK's wanton hubris of not pulling Mahomes on Saturday in an attempt to salvage my own attitude about the status and future of this season. Feel free to disagree.
