The Texas Tech coaches have added six new commitments over the past week and a half. This news has created a lot of discussion around the quality of prospects in the bigger picture, which is 100% understandable.

First off, I want everyone to know that there is no 'right' answer.

Maybe @W. McKay can chime in whenever he gets a chance, but these recent discussions and opinions of the new commits reminded me of something that happened almost one year ago.

Texas Tech held one of their many satellite camps in Houston last June. Will toured the entire state and covered each camp, but he crashed at our place and we both covered the two Houston camps.

Tons of prospects are showing up at Houston Westfield and this lanky kid with glasses on (Gilmore) is the last kid to register, fill out paperwork. I watched the same drills, the same movement and the same everything from this prospect as everyone else in attendance - including Will and Jason Howell.

Both our camp report and Howell's camp recap featured Gilmore as a standout performer. I remember disagreeing at the time, stating his size and lack of offers or recruiting attention as a concern.

Oops.

Five months later, the coaches offered Gilmore and earned his commitment in mid-December before the holidays. The coaches also held onto his commitment despite late pushes from Big12 conference foes Baylor and Kansas State.

Gilmore helped lead his team to the 6A-D2 Area Quarterfinals, earned the 15-6A District Defensive MVP and was named to the 6A All-State Second Team Defense following his senior season.

If anything, I wanted to point out my mistake and show how much can change overtime. There really is no 'right' answer with this stuff.
