My father in law bought and gifted me a gun for Christmas/birthday. A Springfield Echelon 9mm. I'm not a gun guy in the slightest, and I probably never would have bought one myself. But alas, now I'm a gun owner! I'm coming around to it.
Ideally this is only a self-defense gun. Like keep in your nightstand, only pull out when it seems absolutely necessary type of thing. My wife is of the "Did you lock all the doors? Are you sure? What about the back door?" variety, and I always try and tell her that if somebody wants to rob our house, I'd gladly start looking for the valuables with them... so ultimately, I think it will do wonders for her peace of mind.
Just wondering what yalls recommendations would be for this type of gun? Licenses, accessories, videos to watch, cleaning/upkeep, things to avoid, general safety tips, ammo, etc. I'm open-minded. We don't have any kids yet but hopefully that will change soon. We've also recently gone to the range and got a good feel for it after shooting a few rounds.
TIA
