I know many are focusing on the lackluster play of the defense on week 1, but its worth the time to praise the effort of the offense. Considering the fact we have gone through 4 years of offensive soul searching - quarterback play, offensive line woes, penalties, discipline, it has been a long road. One of the benchmarks of the air raid offense is finding cohesiveness, confidence, and players that can make the machine work. Since Tech has employed a passing offense, I have always looked early to learn exactly what the personality and identity of the offense was going to be. For the first time in years, it appears to me that this offense is going to be fun to watch, and has energetic playmakers that provide an aggressive personality on the field.
Of course, all of this starts with Mahomes. My biggest concerns were that Pat would simply be an "athlete" playing quarterback. And while he is not as polished as he will be, it is safe to assume that he is going to be a quality quarterback who is also a great athlete. He is smart, competitive, and has a quality arm. The kid is a gamer. And to help his cause, the receivers all look to be on the same page. We have a great blend of speed, experience and youth. With what i saw from the freshmen, there is no need for anyone to concern themselves with the players our coaches are recruiting. Brown, Coutee, and Giles are all very good. Cantrell hasn't even hit the field yet, but Lauderdale and Grant are serious threats, along with Ian Sadler who is a quality receiver in his own right.
With solid running backs, and a very experienced offensive line, Tech fans can breathe much easier. The defense did improve yesterday, but its extremely positive to see the offense take this to a new level. KK and his offensive coaches have made huge strides this season. This group has the potential to be a serious serious problem for any one. Was really fun to watch yesterday.
