My thoughts on where we are at

The other thread started by @TTUMAR got me thinking and I mean no disrespect...that's not my style. I've seen you post before and I like what you say. But for some reason this thread got all over me. I read it this morning (and the comments by a lot of you that have been here a long time) and stewed on it over the last few hours. I think I'm completely opposite of the rest of you right now. I hate that but I think that is where I'm at.

I have never seen people leaving in droves like they were on Saturday night. It was very cold and I do understand that side of it...but it's the Longhorns. Usually the most anticipated game of the season. In the past you didn't leave that game. Even if we got our ass beat you sat there and waited so you could put your guns up while the band plays the Matador song...just to show your support. And to show those damn longhorn fans that they didn't break our spirit. I don't see that right now. I see a fan base that is nervous every ball game. Seeing the same song and dance, and then trying to figure out who's fault it was. I do that right now I can't help it. When Jett came in against OU I lost all hope for us continuing to lead and score. I knew in my heart that game was over. No matter how hard we fought we couldn't keep up. Against the damn horns we have all the momentum in the world after going up 7-0 and driving to make it 14-0 and we throw a pick. Right then and there I felt like that game/momentum was gone. Especially going for it on 4th and 1 on their side of the field with 2:35 seconds left in the half. It just is what it is and like I said we've seen it SO many times before.

This year when the season began we saw the practice video with Kliff. A lot of you on here were talking about how great it was and how the kids were buying in. I was the complete opposite and was embarrassed to say that. I immediately thought damn he's not a head coach. He is a genius mind and a hell of an OC...but not a head coach. He doesn't have that kick ass motivational side I think these kids need these days. He's walking around telling them how good they are and not getting in their ass when they mess up. I think that's the discipline side that everyone on here talks about. It has gotten SOOO much better this year. But we still make those bone headed plays. We still haven't really grasped the terrible new rules that they implemented in college football with leading with the head/crown etc. Our guys are still doing it. And although some of those calls are complete BS...some of them are things that we should be coached better not to do. And if you do it during the game and you aren't thrown out, then by God you better get it corrected.

We played well at home against Houston. We played well at Oklahoma State and I thought TCU was one of Kliff's best coaching jobs since he's been here. But those teams are down this year. TCU is a mash unit and Oklahoma State simply isn't what they normally are. We should have beaten Iowa State with Bowman. But questionable calls and some boneheaded decisions cost us that. We should have beaten OU if Bowman plays the entire game. And I believe we would have. We would have beaten Texas with Bowman. But we didn't. We woulda, shoulda, coulda...but we didn't. And we are who we are. We are a mediocre Big 12 team that no one talks about anymore. We are barely mentioned on ESPN College Gameday, and when we are it's in passing. And one of their guys still disrespects Kliff by calling him Coach Handsome and Coach Bro. We are not respected. We are not seen as a threat. We are irrelevant and that is so dangerous with all the TV deals and conference re-alignment that is forthcoming.

Guys it's year 6. I was 35 - 6 years ago and my oldest was 4. I've never been as excited as that day Kliff was hired. I knew it would re-unite the fanbase and we would start to recruit the doors off the Big 12. That didn't happen. I didn't know Kliff wasn't really that dynamic of a personality and recruiter. And he is granted immunity for so many of the coaching staff hires/fires etc because of who he is. But we have taken classes that are not full and sub-par. Although this year is leaps and bounds better, I still don't think it's as good as it should be. If you guys have gotten a chance to see the new "state of the art" indoor facility then you will see what we are now working with. There is NO FREAKING REASON we shouldn't have BIG time recruits wanting to come play for Texas Tech. We have everything we need to be successful now and there are no excuses. It's a big time college football program. We should be at the top of the Big 12. Stop thinking we shouldn't. Stop thinking this is as good as it gets and that's all we can get at Tech. B.S.!! Look at what Beard has done in Basketball and Tadlock has done in Baseball. This program has not reached it's ceiling not even close. But damnit we aren't recruiting like we should.

We have had some great players come thru here lately...I'm not saying it's been a failure by any means. But walk into that facility and see what you are selling to these kids. It's as good if not better than most in the country.

Kliff is one of our own. Of course we all want him to work out. Of course he should be granted a little extra lead way because he is a Red Raider Alumni and cares about Texas Tech like we all do. But again it's year 6. I drive up from Midland with the family and we go to the home games. Saturday night my 8 year old asked me why we go to the games if we lose every time. I told him we don't lose every time. He said yeah but most of the time. Sad thing is he's right. I know we have been beaten over the head with this forever but Kliff is now 2-10 against Conference fo's in front of the paying Red Raider Alumni wanting to see them win. That is unacceptable...and I promise is playing a major role in what is going on behind the scenes.

Anyways it is what it is and I will support this team thru thick and thin. But I had to get this off my chest. I consider a lot of you great Red Raiders and truthfully the ones that care the most about the program. I mean no disrespect and I promise you I'm not a Debbie Downer. But I've got to say I think it's going to be the same song and dance until we change. And no I don't have a clue who we go get. I couldn't even begin. And no I don't want to start over. But man I'm tired of losing...so tired of losing.
