I understand the group think around here was that Wells should have been fired. I'm on record stating the best case scenario would be to retain Wells and replace the offensive coordinator (because of the horrid offense). I wanted this for roster retention, recruiting, and program development. I thought a change at the top would put this program back several years. We just can't afford it. I love Cumbie and can't wait to see our offense under his control.

I don't think anyone can argue that our roster is going to be better next year than it was this year. Losing Carter at WR sucks and the confusing tweet yesterday was annoying in itself because the thought "he may come back" crossed several minds. The returners on defense are surprising and promising. I'd say downright exciting. When's the last time we've had a defense with this much talent on the defense?

If we can fill some real holes with the multi-year transfer market, we will have a serious roster going into next year. Time will tell with the in-game coaching decisions. One would think some of these risks Wells makes will pay off at some point.

I'm fired up for 2021. My expectations are realistic, but our defense should be able to keep us in games. Although the timing of the Wells retention left much to be desired, I think it was the correct decision for the Program. I'll be ready to eat it if we don't make a bowl game next year. Can't wait to get to Lubbock for our first conference game.
