I just spoke to a source very close to Khavon Moore. Here are some updates:
-Khavon Moore will get on campus this Saturday for the 1st and 2nd sessions of summer school.
-When Al Pinkins left for the Florida job, Khavon and the people close to him weren’t quite sure what he was going to do next.
-Al Pinkins called them and reiterated that Texas Tech was the best spot for Khavon, as far as his game goes and how he plays.
“There were only a couple of people out there that could really understand Khavon’s game, because he is 6’8 and likes to play with the ball. Coach Beard was one of them and Al Pinkins was the first one. Al just reiterated that Coach Beard is going to still allow him to be who he is, play with the ball, and do things like that. Coach Beard came down to Georgia and reiterated that everything will be the same and that he still wants Khavon to be a Red Raider. We had a good relationship with Al --- he is from Georgia. Al was at LSU and coached Ben Simmons, so when Al first saw Khavon, he immediately said “this guy is just like Ben Simmons, could be better.” So when Al went to Texas Tech, he still recruited him hard and Coach Beard saw and thought the same thing in seeing what kind of player he was. After Coach Beard’s recent visit, Khavon said that is still what he wants to do, to be a Red Raider. Guns Up!”
-On last season’s Elite 8 run:
“If it weren’t for injury, I think this team would have been in the final four. Khavon was saying if Keenan Evans was 100%, they definitely could have made the final four.”
-More on Khavon Moore and the player that he is:
“I’m telling you, y ’all are getting something special. He has always been a Top 10 guy. Everyone had him ranked 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, --- but people just don’t like the way he plays. Last season they started telling him he needs to shoot the ball more, he isn’t scoring. He is 6’8 and likes to handle the basketball and make plays. That’s who he is --- a big guard. They started dropping him in the rankings since he wasn’t scoring the ball enough. We were on a circuit and Khavon had 15, 10, and 8, and they said that wasn’t enough. Al Pinkins and the college coaches were going crazy saying he was a triple double machine, it was just the writers saying it wasn’t enough. Coach Beard already promised Khavon and guaranteed that he will have 2-3 triple doubles before they get to Big 12 play. With Texas Tech’s style of play where everybody is moving, that will fit in with Khavon’s strengths.”
