Warning: not going to say anything that we don't already know. But i don't care, This thread worked last week, and I'm a little bit superstitious, so i'm going to do it again.
Everyone here is familiar with tcu, and I think most are feeling pretty bullish about what's going to happen this weekend. So this thread should have a very different feel to it.
I will lead with this, and something we should all remember, tcu was not as dominant as last years game indicated. WE imploded on all three sides of the ball with poor punts, turnovers, so forth.
This year the home crowd and revenge factor should be worth a good advantage alone. And I have no doubt Kliff will have these boys thinking about last years game, and last years results.
tcu is talented, they run a good scheme, and boykin is as explosive as anyone when he is playing at the top of his game. But I said after seeing our first two games that regardless of the outcome against arkanasas. WE were going to win this game.
I still believe it, In a game like this where not every possession counts like last week, the pressure will be squarely on tcu's shoulders. and they haven't faced true adversity since they had to play at west virginia last year. And that was with another team.
2 keys to the game in my opinion:
1. week 1 against shsu against a fast tempo offense we couldn't get lined up and struggled to communicate. The past two weeks our opponents have tried to run down the play clock and given us plenty of time to align. This week we need to see if we have improved in this area against a good offensive team, if we haven't, then it is going to be a bloodbath for our d.
2. Don't implode- no blocked punts, (should be a few punts in this game and we can still be in it, not every possession will be do or die) turnovers, stay on our same penalty theme. And Pat doesn't get lost in the moment against another much tougher more aggressive but still sound, unlike utep which was just aggressive, scheme.
I don't think either of those should be an issue, and I think WE are going to be the ones putting them into adverse situations and stealing possessions just like last week.
I also think that most of us realize that tcu is not really a top ten team. Our teams are really more evenly matched if we played on a neutral site than most people realize.
Both have great QBS and skill positions. (They have a bit more size at wideout.)
Both defenses are a work in progress (We have more veteran presence, and healthier group, they have better scheme to fit players they have been running for years.)
I think we will win this game, and most of us do, I felt more confident about this game last week than I did about Arkansas. And that obviously has not changed.
Add in all of the factors playing into this game, and I think tcu comes back down to earth this weekend, and comes down hard.
