The conversation in the "Weekly Wonderings" thread got me curious about a few things, so I loaded up all of the "Yards/Game Allowed" stats on ESPN.com since 2004 (as far back as they go) to look at what happens on average to schools' rankings year to year.
Tech specific things I think are interesting -
Tech specific things I think are interesting -
- Tech's overall average finish was ~74th place, good for 87th overall, 54th out of P5 schools, and 6th out of Big XII schools.
- In 2011, Tech was ranked #114; in 2012, we were #38, an increase of 76 ranks in one season.
- ...though we were back to #85 in 2013 and #125 in 2014.
- Tech has been ranked 100+ for 4 of the last 6 years, and in fact only 4 of the last 12 years; interesting to me because I assumed it was probably worse than that.
- If an FBS team is ranked #100 or worse, the next season they improve, on average, by just over 23 ranks; for P5 only, that number is almost 27.
- If an FBS team is ranked #100 or worse, 76% of the time they improve their ranking by any amount; for P5 only, that number is 77%.
