Tech got a pretty solid result here knocking off a pretty tough UTA squad. Some quick thoughts…
-Tech shot the ball pretty well and was pretty good when they were able to get a shot up. Turnovers were killer in this one.
-The first nine of the second half were brutal. Tech couldn’t get a shot to fall and UTA was out efforting Tech in all facets.
-Tech was able to respond after the lead got cut to six with six minutes to play and escaped to the holiday break with a win.
-Warren Washington does a really good job as a distributor, the one pass to a wide-open McMillian in the first half stood out. He also had a really nice day protecting the rim.
-Was impressed with Pop Isaacs’ effort to get into the passing lanes and disrupt, was able to get a couple of steals and was able to disrupt quite a few times throughout the night.
-Tech did not play very well, not a ton of effort on the boards and it showed with the number of offensive rebounds the Mavericks were able to grab.
-The offense for the Red Raiders is extremely reliant on the deep ball and that showed today, you got hot near the end of the first half but cooled in the early second half which helped the UTA 13-0 run happen.
-You were able to keep Phillip Russell quiet from the field but he was able to get to the line pretty consistently, some of which wasn’t your issue, but still an issue.
This was a tough opponent on a tough day and timeslot, hope the guys have a nice Christmas and refocus for Sam Houston next week.
