Texas Tech closed non-conference play win a commanding win over North Alabama on New Year’s Day, here’s some initial thoughts on the win…

-Tech’s ability to share the ball and find the right shot was really, really nice to watch. The Red Raiders were able to put together some really nice possessions both from sets and in transition throughout the afternoon.

-Kerwin Walton continues to be one of the best players on this roster. He’s continuously shown the ability to drive, create his own shot, cut and play strong defense. One of the biggest year-to-year jumps in a long time. Let’s see if he can continue it in Big 12 play.

-Pop Isaacs has started to look more like himself and has been able to get some shots to fall. Also seems like he’s been a bit more mindful about the type of shot he takes.

-Tech was able to win the rebounding battle from a team perspective. Everyone was involved, which is something Grant has hammered all season.

-Lamar Washington impressed me with his effort on the glass and with his ability to get to the line while fighting through contact on the offensive glass. Probably his best game of the season, if I had to say.

-Tech has shot extremely well from the free throw line and today was no different, which is an excellent trend to continue before conference play.

-The hustle and effort defensively was there more than it has been all season for this team today and it, honestly, feels like this team is playing better and better basketball every time they hit the floor. This coaching staff has this team humming and playing great ball heading into conference play.

-I’m super excited to watch this team compete in the Big 12. No off nights but this team is going to hang in there with everyone. Starts this weekend in Austin.
