RECRUITING: Rivals250 guard Connor Carty includes Texas Tech in top list, sets OV

Caught up with the Rivals250 guard at UA camp this past weekend.

My thoughts: Texas Tech is in the mix for sure, but the leader at the moment is probably Texas A&M. I'm keeping an eye on Bill Bedenbaugh and Oklahoma too. Carty has quickly established a good connection with new OL coach Clay McGuire, and that will have to continue as he moves forward in his recruitment for the Red Raiders to win it. A lot can change between now and his official visit in June, so we'll see.

OT: Christmas, Gaming PC

I'm thinking about getting my son a gaming PC for Christmas. He asked for one, but he does already have a Xbox Series S. Should I just forget it, and go another direction?

Also, so many f'n options on the gaming PC. I'd want something that we could obviously upgrade in the future, but also something that didn't need to be upgraded anytime soon. I've seen some computers seem to not have the room to upgrade, so then I have trouble knowing if I get something, will I be able to upgrade it later.

Any tips/advice? He'll be 10 in January. Also thinking he's almost to the age where a computer to do homework/school work would be beneficial.

So, this post is to really try and gain a better understanding of how others interact with sports in comparison or contrast to how I view things. The reason for this, is because of the sea of negativity that this board and other social media platforms are filled with throughout this fall, and really every season of every sport. I feel like it’s fair to explore this and ask why.

I personally believe sports and sports fandom is meant to bring excitement and scratch a competitive itch, and is made better when viewed through an optimistic lens. There is enough negativity elsewhere, I won’t let it completely pollute my “fun time”. Do I want my teams to win? Yea, no shit…but all I want my teams to be competitive and give me something to cheer for.

I don’t know exactly when the shift to “if we aren’t winning it all, the season is a failure” became the “norm” but it really feels like it sucks all the fun out of the building. So, what am I missing? Is our best 3 year stretch in football in over a decade and a half not enough to feel good about? Is MBB being competitive with a handful of talented guys not enough to have patience and let them gel?

And I know that I live closer to the side of sunshine pumping, so I’m not trying to high horse it…I know there are flaws in my approach, but I like our coaching staffs, I like our players overall, and I like the direction our teams are moving in overall. Some changes would be good, but overall I just don’t get the doom and gloom I’m seeing everywhere.

How are all of yall feeling?

The Matador Club - Federal Tax Exempt Status

The Matador Club has been granted its status as a tax exempt entity under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We received the official letter from the IRS yesterday - it came much faster than expected. Donors can deduct contributions that they make to The Matador Club , and all prior donations made (after December 2021) are retroactively tax deductible.

We have had great success so far, largely thanks to the generosity of a number of large donors. The Matador Club is going to make a big impact. To make it sustainable for the long term, however, we need to get more smaller-dollar and recurring donations. Everybody needs to do their part!!

Need a puppy!

My folks (Midland) would like (and need to help keep them company) a small breed puppy (they like short hair smaller dog. Yorkie type but not too particular).

Anyone in the area (midland/odessa or Lubbock) have a pup available to re-home?

I live in Austin and don’t get to visit too often. Would love to leave them a pup when we go home.

I’ll be in Midland until Sunday (Lubbock for the game Saturday).
