SI: Preseason Big 12 Power Rankings & Record Predictions

Injuries decimated their dreams of competing for a Big 12 title a year ago, specifically the loss of QB Tyler Shough. Having one of the best running backs in the league (Tahj Brooks) helps, but this Red Raider team feels like it's in a bit of a rebuild. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up a couple of spots higher at season's end, but they're not moving above the middle of the pack.

Projected wins: Abilene Christian, North Texas, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado
Projected losses: Washington State, Cincinnati, Arizona, TCU, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia

Projected record: 5-7 (3-6)

If we end up 5-7 then the honeymoon if OVER. I don't see anything less than 7 wins on the low end. 8 wins should be the floor though.

RECRUITING: Rivals Rankings Update This Week

good morning friends

the Rivals national team is updating rankings for the 2025 class this week...

TTU 2025 Class

  • Monday: Five-Star Countdown
  • Tuesday: New Rivals250 unveiled | Gorney goes position-by-position | Biggest risers
  • Wednesday: New offensive position rankings released | QB rankings breakdown | RB rankings breakdown | WR/TE rankings breakdown | OL rankings breakdown
  • Thursday: New defensive position rankings released | DL rankings breakdown | LB rankings breakdown | DB rankings breakdown | ATH rankings breakdown
  • Friday: New state rankings released | Who is No. 1 in each state?
  • Saturday: Roundtable on the new Rivals250 rankings

the Red Raiders do not currently have a commitment in the Rivals 250 national rankings, does that change in this update - we find out tomorrow

the Red Raiders have 10 total 5.5 three-star commitments, including another 5.4 two-star prospect, so 11 total prospects who could potentially receive a rankings update - offense on Wed and defense on Thurs

on the state rankings and Rivals Texas Top 100, the Red Raiders currently have three (3) commitments in the Texas Top 100 - all of the four-star prospects (No. 50 - QB Jones III + No. 67 - WR Gentry + No. 70 WR Jones) are in the Top 100, but the coaches do have two (2) 5.7 three-star prospects (LB Golwas + TE Harrison) that could be seen on an updated state rankings list

again, we do not have any bearing on what changes take place and this is more of a conversation/bookmark for where things stand before the updated rankings are released this time around

ok, now I will brace for impact...

UPDATE: Rothstein: Tech, A&M to adjust 2024 hoops contest

Texas Tech and Texas A&M are finalizing an agreement to play a neutral site game at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Dec. 8th, a source told College Hoops Today.

An official announcement is expected soon.

The game will be part of a quadruple header featuring one other men’s game and two high profile women’s games.

Texas Tech and Texas A&M were scheduled to play a home-and-home series beginning this season in Lubbock, but according to a source, the start of that series has now been postponed.

Journey (Neal Schon vs J Cain)

These two have been at each others throats for years including law suits which was eventually ironed out by these guys wives. Evidently last weeks performance in DFW was their final show, as Cain filed another suit again Schon and they cancelled the remainder if the tour. They were in Lubbock in March with Toto and both bands were great. Sometimes you wonder how Rush did it for 40 years.

Tech Golf: US Amateur

Calum Scott is probably playing the best amateur golf outside of Luke Clanton this summer. He made the cut and was the top amateur at the Open, and now is playing well at the US Amateur. It appears they are playing two course at the US amateur, and he has the best round on the tougher course. Lots of other red raiders in the field :)

State Fair of Texas to ban guns, tighten security one year after a shooting that injured 3 people

The State Fair of Texas will ban all firearms from fairgrounds and tighten security at fair entrances during the upcoming event, officials announced Thursday — about a year after an alleged gunman opened fire on the fairgrounds and injured three people.

The annual security update, in which fair officials were joined by the Dallas Police Department, DART police and Dallas ISD police, came earlier than usual. It’s been almost a year since one man shot at another in the food court at the Tower Building around 7:45 p.m. Oct. 14, Dallas police said. Victims had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested 22-year-old Cameron Turner in connection with the shooting. He’s charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place

Texas AG Ken Paxton threatens legal action over State Fair of Texas gun ban: 'Fix the issue'
Paxton argued that the gun ban infringes on Texas gun owners' rights because Fair Park is government-owned property.

Updated: 8:17 AM CDT August 14, 2024
DALLAS — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is threatening legal action against the City of Dallas if the State Fair of Texas does not lift its new ban on all guns, including license-to-carry firearms.

Paxton in a news release Wednesday called the license-to-carry ban "unlawful" and said he's giving the city 15 days "to fix the issue, otherwise I will see them in court."

3D Printing Nerds GITT

I bought my first 3D printer back in 2017. I think I printed a single thing with it - a 2x4 lego brick and then quit as it was such a PITA to get it calibrated, etc...

Fast forward to 2024, and 3D printing has made amazing progress. I picked up a new printer earlier this year - a Prusa MK4 - and started tinkering again. Then read reviews about the Bambu Lab lineup, and took advantage of their 2nd Anniversary pricing to pick up an A1.

I can't state how cool I think the Bambu printers are - I have my kids printing stuff to them from my iPhone.

Anyway, those of you with printers, what are some cool and useful things you've printed? I've run the gamut of chip clips, fidget toys, and storage bins, but I'm starting to venture into other areas. Right now I'm printing some schedule 40 interconnections for my woodworking dust collection system, and I'll be printing some blast gates later as well. Priced them out at Rockler earlier today for almost $200, and I think I'll be able to print them for about $20 + a day's worth of time. Will post some pics when completed.

RIP first down chains….’Hawk Eye’ technology debuts in NFL preseason games

The NFL is using this new system called ‘Hawk Eye’ technology in some pre-season games. The chain gang may be a thing of the past soon.

What are your thoughts on this new technology?

OT - LLWS (serious degenerates only) - updated w/ plays in OP

The Little League World Series starts on Wednesday. It’s probably the easiest sport to bet on and win. And it’s difficult to get money down on it for that reason. For the true degenerates on here, I’ll be posting my bets for this week in this thread for you to fade or follow. I would not post them if I didn’t think they had a strong chance of winning.

Some ground rules:

—flat bet all of these, meaning bet the same amount on each game.

—don’t bet it at a number that is worse than whatever is posted on this thread. These lines move super fast, and you’re going to have to act quickly to get the right number. For example, if I post hawaii -6.5 runs, and it’s -9.5 on your site, don’t bet it. You didn’t see it fast enough to get the bet in. Don’t sweat it.

The umps are volunteers.

The players are children.

The money is real.
