RECRUITING: Red Raiders offer Wisconsin pass rusher Ryan Westrich - pres. by Chocolate Milk

Spoke with a recent 2026 offer from the Midwest...always interesting talking to these kids from far away. Tech has started recruiting the region a little bit more with several commits in the 2025 class such as Ren Brown (Nebraska), Elias Gillen (South Dakota) and Garin Maley (Nebraska).

Some commit movement in the rankings

I'm sure there are some who have realized that QB commit Lloyd Jones has dropped from a four-star to a three-star in the most recent Rivals rankings update. It was not a steep drop at all, moving from the No. 7 DUAL to the No. 9 DUAL. Wanted to provide some context as to why that happened. Much of it is to do with the Dual-Threat QB projection. He is indeed a running QB with his production during the high school career, which includes 655 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in his junior season.

However, I do have some slight reservations about his potential as a runner at the college level, especially at the weight he is likely to play. The verified speed we have available to evaluate is the 400 meter on the track, which can extrapolate to long speed we might see on the field. He ran a 59.4-second 400m dash, which is 5-7 seconds slower than a number of the other DUAL QB's in the class to this point. Now, Jones is typically much heavier than the others, weighing 210 pounds currently. I also worry that if he adds mass in college, which is common, that his speed could suffer. At the next level, the athletes and the speed on defenses does not compare to the competition he plays now.

There will be a discussion in the future whether DUAL is the right fit for his projection. I will be out at Hitchcock this fall for a live evaluation on him.

Why do people not like Shough?

Just curious. Not meaning to pepper angus, wondering on some people's opinion.

Not sure I’d count the UT game since he got hurt, but the other 3 games he started, we won.

1 one of those being one of the bigger wins of the season, in my opinion.

Pretty decent stats. Could turn the ball over less, I suppose.

In my opinion, I think we have an embarrassment of riches with Morton, Smith and Shough in the QB room. With Cumbie leaving, that may mean Morton transfers and Smith goes as well, if some of the staff isn't retained.

I dont know, I guess I think he is pretty good, from the small sample size we have. I see lots of people vehemently against starting him and even keeping him on the roster. To each their own, but just dont understand I suppose.

Tailgate Express...

...desperately needs an English speaker to correct the grammar/spelling on their website. Anyone know them personally? Hate to call them out, but their website doesn't have a "contact us" option and past that I'm too lazy.

I received an email from the alumni association sponsored by TGE and went to peruse their website. It looks like some ESL student wrote the copy.

I know from users on this board that they provide a great service, but they really are not putting their best foot forward. I hate to see that from fellow Red Raiders.

Please Lord let there be no grammatical issues with this post. Amen.
