This team is worse than any Wells team

This is where it’s at — beneath Matt Wells who took over a program that was worse than what McGuire inherited.

Wells’ first team in 2019 was 4-8, and four losses were by a combined 11 points. This team could only dream of playing games that close.

The COVID year of 2020 was 4-6. Think this team will do better than that?

His last team in 2021 was 5-2 going into the K-State game and would have been 6-2 without Devin Drew’s dumb ass penalty that allowed a K-State comeback, got Wells fired and we THOUGHT changed the fortunes of the Tech program by ultimately bringing in McGuire.

Wells never had a schedule this soft and, unlike now, had to play Texas and OU every year. He actually brought in some solid players through the portal, and not a bunch of kids with track measureables who look good on a list.

I’m not saying Wells should still be here. I am saying that in year three under McGuire, the benchmark to fairly judge a new coach, this program looks rudderless and lost and objectively looks worse than under Wells. And I’m as stunned as anyone but I can only go by what I see

Here’s the deal

Tech is a shit program. Presently and historically.

We caught lightning in a bottle with Leach and I feel bad for all those that weren’t around to witness it.

We have a massive alumni base and money will never really be an issue so we’ll always be on the fringe on relevancy but this is a 7-5 program at best.

We’ll never be able to consistently recruit well enough, for many reasons, and we’ll never be able to pay what it takes for a top tier coaching staff to turn this thing around.

This program has been in an extreme decline for 15 years and even then, most years would been considered middle tier - save for 1 or 2. Honestly its sort of impressive Tech has accomplished as much as it has.

As I type this, another opponent just set some sort of record against Tech. Fuk me

Bottom Line is

We are below average at about 19 of our 22 positions and it starts with a below average QB behind a way below average offensive line, our defense scheme is weak and our offense sucks. Ready for the “air raid” to die off and we get a better offensive scheme then our dink and dunk bs. This team will win 5 maybe 6 games max. I’m to the point of dvr the game and get to it when I can because planning around the game has become a beatdown.

📰Story: Texas Tech Volleyball Goes 3-0 in Red Raider Classic, Correa Gets 1000th Career Dig

Got our first look at this new Texas Tech Volleyball team in Lubbock and the team found a way to get three solid wins to go 3-0 in the Red Raider Classic. Not perfect, moments of sloppy passing etc. but thought the way they were able to fight through that and come back to win anyway was a major step forward from last year where it seemed those type of starts just crumbled them. Time will tell but really like the defensive attitude early for this team. We highlight a few standout players (three of whom were transfers) and a career moment for Maddie Correa who has been a TRUE Red Raider for life sticking it out all four seasons now and hitting 1000 digs during this tournament.

Quotes from head coach Tony Graystone and senior Reagan Leinen included as well a few game highlights.
