Sports Cards Crash Course

I've seen some guys talk about cards on here in the past. I'm looking to start a new collection for my son (born last month!). I collected as a kid, but at the time I didn't care anything about brands.

That said, when looking for cards, what specific brands tend to hold value and is there a site I can use to value them and make sure I'm not getting shafted? I used to have a Beckett's magazine as a kid, but I imagine there's better resources out there.

My initial internet search brought up an overwhelming amount of info, so I'm hoping some RRS guys can steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

Today 11/16’s games

Should’ve known it’d be a boring day of ball with no dedicated thread (to my knowledge) for the slate today.

None of these games have moved me enough to take time out of the day and watch the whole thing. Utah CU went how I thought it would. Got Nebraska USC on right now and it put me to sleep for a bit.

Tune in to Oregon-Wisconsin tonight? Probably. Definitely will have Georgia-Tennessee on. Just haven’t been super intrigued with any of these games, anybody else feel the same?

OT: F3 Nation (Workouts)

A buddy of mine mentioned this to me and I started to look more into it, and it seemed really interesting.

It's completely peer led and 100% free. Supposedly afterwards, some groups will do a prayer or motivation type thing after. Seems kinda culty but apparently if you get past that, it's just a great time and get in the best shape of your life and make some friends along the way. There's over 5000 around the US and will be around the area. https://map.f3nation.com/

Has anyone tried this yet? Biggest downside I see is the workouts are all at like 5am. Just curious if anyone has any experience with this and your thoughts as I'm thinking about giving it a go but trying to determine if it's worth it.

SMU in the playoffs?

#13 SMU is 8-1, 5-0 in ACC
Loss by 3 to #9 BYU early and wins over #25 Louisville and #23 Pitt.
#4 Miami and #13 SMU are the only two with undefeated ACC records .

SMU has only BC, Virginia, Cal left.
Miami has only Ga Tech, Wake, Syracuse left.
Miami will roll SMU in the title game but 11-2 Mustangs might still get in.

12 teams
3 SEC, 3 BIG, ND, Mtn West Boise, Miami, BYU. Leaves 2 spots for at large bids
from ACC and Big 12.
If ISU wins out and title, both BYU and ISU are locks at 12-1. ISU at 11-2 is on bubble.

Tyson-Paul “fight”

What to make of this sanctioned fight tomorrow night between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul?

I know next to nothing about Paul as I don’t travel in his world but those who do hope Tyson knocks his ass out.

But I’m hearing that this is just a money grab for Tyson (and probably Paul too) and question his conditioning and desire for a guy 50 years old.

Guess we’ll see.

Made it to the GrandPa Club

First Grandchild was just born. A baby girl that arrived 4 weeks early

So proud of my Son and DIL. They named her after my Mom who unfortunately passed shortly after I was born. One of the few times I have ever seen my Dad cry, knowing his great granddaughter was named after his first Love.

Big day for our family and thanks for letting me share such a joy with my RRS FAMILY

⚽️2024 Texas Tech Soccer Season Discussion Thread

Notes: After a historic undefeated regular season and Big 12 Championship in 2023...Texas Tech soccer looks to reload and carry the momentum into 2024. Preseason coaches poll has Texas Tech at #8, which is a nod of respect for the program as I think everyone in the soccer world is watching from afar to see how this years team looks after losing four starters to graduation (three now playing pro soccer at that) and a 5th to miss at least the first month of the season recovering from a SEI at the end of last season. Key players like Kylie Bahr, Sam Courtwright (she will miss a chunk of Big 12 games however due to international duty playing for team usa in U-20 World Cup) and Chloe Soto are a year older now though plus the team returns leading goal scorer Ashleigh Williams as well as key seniors Elise Anderson and Cassie Taylor. Key transfer addition in Peyton Annen (will step into centerback role previously held by team captain Hannah Anderson the last 5 seasons) and perhaps UCLA transfer Faith Ngyuen will get the tough task of replacing the all-time leader in shutouts as a keeper Madison White, a very talented GK room though so very intrigued to see who wins this job.

Season gets underway tonight with an exhibition @ Denver as is the tradition for this program then the real thing begins with a really really tough but fun trip to #4 Penn State August 15.

2024 Schedule:
8/8 @ Denver (EXB)
8/15 @ Penn State
8/18 vs. CSUN
8/22 vs. St. Bonaventure
8/25 @ Utah State
8/29 vs. Weber State
9/1 vs. Oral Roberts
9/5 vs. Oregon
*Start of Big 12 Play*
9/12 @ TCU
9/19 vs. UTAH
9/22 @ OSU
9/26 @ KState
9/29 @ Houston
10/4 vs. Baylor
10/10 vs. Colorado
10/13 vs. Iowa State
10/17 @ WVU
10/20 @ Cincy
10/25 vs. BYU

I think most will be interested to see how the beginning of season goes as they sort out the new faces, players returning from injury and potentially missing Courtwright for a few weeks (hoping she gets to play vs Penn State at least) but with how road heavy the Big 12 schedule is to start....they have every opportunity with a lot at home in second half to make up ground if that's what it comes to. Beat BYU to end the conference season in front of a sold out John Walker and be peaking heading into postseason....manifest that. 🧘‍♀️

OT: Router upgrade advice

I am rather limited on the technical side so looking for some advice on upgrading our router. Currently running a Nighthawk R7000 to distribute our Ting 1G WiFi. It’s been decent/good for a while but I know Ting will be increasing their speeds soon in our area from anywhere to 2-5G. We’re also a bit above the sqft rating of the R7000 which is rated at 1800 and we’re almost 2900 across 3 floors.
Looking at either the new nighthawk WiFi 7 router or possibly their Orbi system although it’s a good bit of cash and probably over kill. My one thought with the Orbi system would be having a mesh point on the 3rd floor (finished attic) where my wife and me have our offices.
Appreciate any advice.
