Geno Auriemma Breaks Coaching Record with 1217 Wins

Geno Auriemma should properly be called:

  • A) The Winningest Women's Basketball Coach

  • B) The Winningest College Basketball Coach

  • C) An asshole for taking the record away from a woman in a women's sport

  • D) A and C

  • E) All of the Above

Obviously a great achievement, and he's obviously a great coach. BUT...

They are calling him the winningiest college basketball coach, period, and I don't think he would have won that many games if he coached Men's basketball. The women's game is a different sport and there wasn't (and really still isn't) nearly as much parity in WBB as there is in MBB. There is definitely more parity now than when Geno started, but we still see quite a few 100-22 type blowouts in WBB whereas we rarely see them in the men's game.

ESPN to sublicense Big 12 games to TNT, Max

According to WSJ’s Joe Flint, starting next season ESPN will sublicense Big 12 conference football and basketball games to Warner Bros. Discovery that it can broadcast on TNT and stream on Max.

This news came out on report that WBD settled its suit against the NBA. Other news is Warner Bros. Discovery will license Inside The NBA with its current team to be seen on ESPN and ABC. If I read that correctly, the show maintains what it is now, using TNT crew and operations, and won’t be run by, as Barkley puts it regularly on the show, “them idiots at ESPN”.

OT: Savanah Bananas

Just got my tickets for Denver today. Anyone else do the K-Club and get tickets the past couple of weeks?

I missed out on tickets in the lotto last year so I’m pretty pumped. My wife & kiddo are actually excited about going too. I didn’t know about the K-Club until they sent an email about it this summer. It’s definitely worth joining if you want tickets.

Hudson Westbrook - Tech Student/Country Singer

Kid is from Stephenville (played on those state title teams) and a student at Tech. Hes been blowing up with some of his covers on TikTok and currently blowing up with his newly released single “Take It Slow”.

Figured I’d share it with fellow Red Raiders. Hes playing a live show at Cook’s in 806 this weekend.

San Francisco Trip Advice

Thinking about surprising the wife with a week long trip to San Fran/bay area in January. I've been before but its been a long time and she has never been. Question for anyone who has any advice: Where are good areas to stay? What are the must hit spots? Is Napa worth it? Travel recs? Where to avoid?

We like good food, cool sights, wine, anything outside. Also not married to only staying in the SF area --Would love stay in at least 2 spots; SF and preferably something outside of the city.

Thanks in advance!

Big 12 Football: State of the Union

New Big 12 year one for football
Short Answer: Not great, Bob

Looking over ESPNs projections

First-round byes

No. 1 Oregon (Big Ten champ)
No. 2 Texas (SEC champ)
No. 3 Miami (ACC champ)
No. 4 Boise State (Mountain West champ)

First-round games

On campus, Dec. 20 and 21

No. 12 BYU (Big 12 champ) at No. 5 Ohio State
No. 11 Georgia at No. 6 Penn State
No. 10 Ole Miss at No. 7 Indiana
No. 9 Alabama at No. 8 Notre Dame

Going into the final stretch, only one Big 12 team projected in the 12 team bracket, basically whoever wins the Big 12 Championship game. BYU is just the current place saver.

What’s worse, you’re not even gonna be one of the 4 first round bye games. The Mountain West is higher ranked than you lol

And to compound it even more… there’s still a chance that the Big 12 doesn’t get in the CFP at all…

Quarterback dilemma next year

Thinking ahead to next year, I would suspect that we can anticipate that Jake Strong and Cameron Brown may
enter the portal. That leaves us with 2 QB's and a true freshman who is injured coming in. So lets think about
if Will Hammond wins the job in the Spring, could Morton hit the portal at that point. That leaves us with
basically 1 QB. I assume their efforts to recruit another freshman or maybe they try to bring another in from
the portal just in case this may very well happen Could be a very difficult situation to manage for Joey.

BASEBALL: Emptying The Notebook: Post-Fall Baseball Report pres. by Prosper Energy Management

Wanted to come in here and talk about some baseball, something that I frankly have not done a good enough job to cover this fall, but I got out to the stadium and watched quite a bit of baseball over the last few weeks, so let's jump into it.

-From a lineup perspective, the overall theme of this team is going to be the versatility and depth. Tech will have the option to play quite a bit of different players at different positions. Tech will have plenty of that in the infield with Peyton Schulze, Robin Villenueve and TJ Pompey making up the majority of the corner spots. Damian Bravo has played a bit of 2B this fall and Tracer Lopez seems like a lock to be your SS in February.

-Also think that Bravo might get sent back to the OF based on how JUCO INF Antonelli Savatterre was swinging the bat. Just very strong bat to ball ability, gap to gap and a strong ability to run. I would be pretty surprised if he can't carve out a place in the lineup.

-In the OF, I think the conversation will largely revolve around Kyeler Thompson, a JUCO transfer out of Galveston, who has continually hit well throughout the fall and has been a pretty impressive defensive CF, taking good routes and having strong but not stellar athleticism to run down balls. Freshman Kendyl Johnson has a similar conversation to me, but is almost the opposite. Johnson flashed some extreme athleticism in the OF during the fall, but to me was continually making things harder on himself with his routes to the balls in the OF, but had the athleticism to make up for it. Leaning to Thompson in CF.

-Stetson transfer OF Logan Hughes and C Davis Rivers came along late in the fall, thought both swung the bat really well in the Red & Black series and I think that both will provide really strong options against RHP next season.

-Finally offensively, I think that Tech's best defensive catcher this fall was Hudson Parker, who is no longer on the mound, and mixed in at first base quite a bit. His arm was very, very strong and he cut down a few runners, something that Tech seemed to do quite a bit more. Think we might see some more running on the bases.

-On the mound, it was tough sledding at times in the R&B series, however, it's tough for those guys at this point since they're so exposed to the hitters and it's not really indicative of what it will look like.

-The Red Raiders arms that came in from JUCO seem to be really, really strong. I am a big fan of JT Drake, who had a good outing late last week. I also like Johnny Lowe, who sat topped out at 93 in game two.

-The ones that were impressive we're the freshmen, who might have a chance to get on the mound this year. Connor Mohan got up to 96 this fall and was really strong in his two outings. Also was a fan of Jorden Espinoza and Jackson Burns, two of your higher rated freshman arms, both looked good. Also thought the local kid Logan Addison was solid in his outings, just is gonna take a bit of time with the jump in competition.

-Heuer was up to 96 and struggled in his second outing, don't think it was major, but the stuff was live. You need him to be what we expect him to be this season. Also of note that Zane Petty was back on the mound a bit and is still working back in his rehab. Would be a big addition to this staff if he can get back to freshman form.

-The portal arms were solid. Cebert has some really strong stuff and is kind of funky from a mechanics perspective. Really think that he will slot into the rotation. Crotchfelt and Bevis were also solid in their outings. Really feels like there's some more depth with the arms this year, hopefully it comes to fruition.

SPITBALLIN' Final Buzzer Feeling: Arkansas-Pine Bluff pres. by Open Door Financial Advisors

That was a win versus one of the worst teams in the nation. Good to get it done before you hop on a cross-country flight to Brooklyn tomorrow. Let’s jump into some thoughts.

Darrion Williams, The Savior: This was an ugly first half from the Red Raiders despite the scoreline, and Williams was the major bright spot for Tech. With 14 points on 6/8 shooting, Williams was one of the only answers for Tech against the Pine Bluff zone, that was giving Tech fits throughout.

Toppin, others, struggle vs. the zone: As mentioned above, the Red Raiders struggled to find answers versus the zone, and the Red Raiders struggles from deep didn’t help matters. UAPB did a nice job of mixing it up and it gave Tech some fits early. Tech found some rhythm offensively and eventually was able to create some separation.

Red Raiders still searching for defensive answers: Tech’s defensive ability was once again a struggle against the Golden Lions, allowing dribble penetration and easy buckets on back-cuts at times. Obviously not what you’re looking for on the heels of a strong showing against Wyoming last week, but it’s got to improve later in the week. Also thought that Tech wasn’t great on the defensive boards, but the numbers don’t really reflect that.

McMillian showing strides: Chance has continued to show strides. I think he has been Tech’s best off-ball guard through four games this year. He’s always been athletic and he has improved from an offensive standpoint, able to create his own shots and score going downhill, a very welcome development from last season.

Overton with his best showing as a Red Raider: Was impressed with Overton’s shot tonight. Felt like he shot the ball the best he has to this point while being able to play some solid defense on the night. I think his ceiling is pretty high, so I’m hopeful he can continue to improve as the season rolls along.

Obviously not a ton of conclusions drawn against this level of competition, and it didn’t feel like Tech played very well but got a massive result. Odd one, kind of as expected, hopefully Tech can look a little sharper against St. Joe’s on Thursday.
