Kamala’s Tax Plan: Atlas Shrugged in Real Life?

In “Atlas Shrugged,” society’s brightest minds—the entrepreneurs, inventors, and visionaries—are pushed to the brink by policies that punish success. Kamala’s proposal to tax unrealized gains brings that dystopia to life, threatening Silicon Valley with crushing taxes on paper wealth that doesn’t yet exist.

@SebastianThrun, founder of Udacity, is a real-life Atlas Shrugged character in this scenario. When Udacity reached unicorn status, Thrun’s wealth looked massive on paper, but in reality, there was no cash to pay taxes on those hypothetical gains.

This policy could’ve forced him into impossible decisions: pay taxes on unrealized income or risk jail—for building something valuable for society.

Taxing theoretical wealth risks turning innovators into criminals, making ambition a liability. Are we headed toward an economy where those who create the most are punished the hardest?

Thoughts from an entrepreneur who’s start up valuation was extremely volatile, as most business are, and due to Kamala’s new tax plan taxing money he never had, would have ended up in prison. Purely as a price for his success:

“Taxing unrealized capital gains might place Silicon Valley entrepreneurs like myself in jail. Udacity stock went up and down (on paper!), but at its "unicorn" prime I would not have been able to pony together the cash necessary to pay those taxes. Jail time for people who build? Atlas, please shrug.”

Corbin Green ?

Is he eligible to play this year? I've seen reports he had some academic stuff at Air Force that potentially make him ineligible for 24/25

I ask because he could come in handy as a depth piece if we have big man injuries or major foul trouble. We are still not a big team nor do we have significant frontcourt depth...

I was just thinking… part 2

I applaud all you gentlemen who stayed up and watched that whole damn game! I can’t believe how many of you there were and my goodness yall the real heros! My ass was asleep by 9:00. I woke up phone was on silent and watched the game in the morning how stressful was that game. I can’t imagine staying up till 1:40 then trying to go to sleep no way no how.

ITT, We Laugh at Kansas

Preseason Hype:
  • Preseason AP Poll had them #22 in the country
  • Picked to finish 4th in the Big 12 in the media prediction, with 5 first-place votes
  • Vegas had them around 8.5 wins this season
  • Jalon Daniels picked to win Big 12 Comeback POTY, and appeared on every preseason watch list (Walter camp, Heisman, Maxwell, etc.)
  • Most of the rest of their offense returned, including their top 4 receivers and their top 2 running backs
  • 2023: Averaged 35 PPG, largely with a backup QB
  • Finished last season ranked #23 in the final AP poll, first time they had finished ranked since 2008
  • 2023 was also their first winning season since 2008
Today:

  • 1-4, with their only win being against Lindenwood (?)
  • Averaging 23 PPG against FBS opponents
  • Jalon Daniels is completing 53% of his throws for 800 yards, 5 TDs and 8 INTs, has thrown 2nd most INTs in the country
  • They opened this week as 3-point underdogs against Arizona State
The loss of their OC Andy Kotelnicki to Penn State has taken all the wind out of their sails. They replaced him with Jeff Grimes, who'd just gotten canned by Baylor for having the most pedestrian offense in the country. Looks like their offensive production has basically been reduced by a third, despite returning all of their starters.

They were decent for ONE year, and they let it go to their heads. If you've ever met a Jayhawks fan (especially during basketball season), you know not to feel sorry for them one bit.

Way OT: LED Christmas Lights

It’s early obviously, but up here in Minnesota it’s about to get cold AF so me and a couple neighbors are renting a cherry picker next weekend to knock out our Christmas lights while it’s still nice out.

Last year I had all the old school, big glass bulbs. Turns out we don’t rent the picker to take them down and that was a disaster (although kinda cool if you were the kind of kid that would steal bulbs from neighbors and pop them on the street).

Looking to swap out to the LEDs w/ plastic covers this year, but I’ve seen some that look really weak and I want to make sure the ones I get are as bright as possible.

Anyone know a lot about exterior illumination or have a source for good, C9 bulbs? Any ideas on what amp/watts I should be looking for?

Eakin

I remember watching his high school highlights at Stephenville and being wowed by his playmaking ability. Wasn’t sure how it would translate to college but he was the best player on the field in every game he played in high school.

Fast Forward: Guy is simply a stud. And quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
And it’s not just because he’s producing; 17 receptions, 307 yards, 5 TDs, 18.1 yard average and has also thrown a TD on the year. But it’s how he is doing it, when he is doing it and there’s a calm swagger there.
There’s a grit and a presence we haven’t seen in a bit. That Wes Welker, Mickey Peters type of grit. I think he would’ve made Leach proud.

Guy is underratedly athletic to boot…

Long story short, there’s a reason a frosh like Hudson isn’t getting rushed onto the field. You’ve got some special receivers and it’s starts with Coy (and Kelly).

I recommend to take the time and enjoy Mr. Eakin (only a sophomore). He’s a special talent and exudes that Leach era vibe. Win or lose, bad play calling or not, he’s a guy we are gonna look back on as Red Raider great IMO.

STORY: Final Whistle Feeling: Arizona

Wow. This team just keeps finding a way. It is honestly remarkable. Some sleep deprived, off the cuff thoughts coming at you.

-The defense continued to ball out, it was absolutely ridiculous to watch. The three interceptions, the continual ability to stuff the run, just everything. The linebackers played so well. DeRuyter schemed it up well. When Lux played, he played damn good.

-Brooks fumbling twice was not on the radar. Can’t believe it honestly. Somehow you were able to overcome it.

-Morton wasn’t good throughout, but threw two damn good throws to Douglas on that drive to take the lead. Reminiscent of the Kansas game last year.

-Brent Brennan handed you this one with his decision to throw the ball on 2nd & 3rd down on the drive before Tech took the lead. Wild choice from that staff.

-You’re in first in the Big 12 at 3-0. The Red Raiders have been nowhere near perfect, but it has equaled 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference at the bye. We all would’ve signed up for it in June. More thoughts at some point. Have a good night.

Flea flicker screen

Saw a replay of this and paused it when Kelly catches the ball. I know people didn't like the play, but there were 5 blockers in front of him to match up with 3 defenders and no one blocked a single guy. They ran right by defenders and just kept going downfield, looking around at who knows what.

It was a bit overly cute for what we probably needed, but it could have likely been a pretty successful play had any of the blockers looked to engage someone. Merriman just by himself missed 3 blocks, any of which would have changed the outcome of the play.
