Horizon - Costner

Saw it this afternoon

Loved it - very solid production - totally held my interest and attention.

If you are a fan of the Yellowstone spinoffs you will likely really love it. There are several storylines in several locations being told simultaneously- thus it’s a three hour film that’s setting the stage for the three films yet to come.

Basically it’s like a new western spinoff series and this first film is equivalent of two, 90 minutes episodes.

KC has cast some recognizable actors including two prominent Yellowstone characters who had memorable roles for a couple of seasons each.

Beautiful western locations - great casting of secondary characters.

Its a Big 👍 from me

With our recent talk about needing to balance a quality SOS with home game revenue, I wonder if hosting a multi-team event in Lubbock would be a possibility. Target some top 100 KenPom teams that are also looking to build up their SOS and host 3-8 teams in a way that guarantees increased revenue, home games, and a better quality opponents for Tech.

Schools like Dayton (32 KenPom), Utah St. (53), San Francisco (61), New Mexico (67), George Mason (82), Rhode Island (89), Northern Iowa (96), or Colorado St (97). Obviously bring in the best you can, but we aren't going to compete with Hawaii or the Bahamas. But, I think it could get some quality teams to Lubbock, strengthen our schedule, and help revenue. Tubby Smith was a master of filling his schedule with teams that were winnable but pulled up the average of his SOS.

Thoughts?

OT: Holiday meals

Doing a holiday meal with some people today, not responsible for any of it so trying to stay out and be polite while somewhat worried about how stuff was going. Was just asked if I would use a meat thermometer to check the turkey because the cook hasn’t done that before.

Breast and thigh both a balmy 205. It was injected with about 1/4 jar of Tony’s injection (15 lb bird) before though so that’s might give it a bit of help.

TBD on everything else.

You guys have pretty good luck with holiday meals with friends/family, or do you go for the relationships and plan on grabbing takeout on the way home?

Bellenfant started his career at Alabama but didn't see any action in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He transferred to Buffalo last winter where he was the Bulls primary kicker, going 14/16 on FG's and 29/29 on extra points for the year. His two misses were from 48 and 55. He also handled their kickoffs, with 29 touchbacks on 67 attempts.

Following the season he was named to the All-MAC third team. He will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Apple Airpod hearing assistance

I read about this a few weeks ago and decided to buy Airpods II. You have to have an Iphone with an advanced update 18.1 or so. I have been fighting hearing aids for years now so I figured I could buy them pretending that I needed good ear buds to listen to music and stuff. I did the hearing test and the tests indicated moderate hearing loss in one ear and mild hearing loss in the other. I followed the instructions and let the Airpods update. I've been wearing them now for about 4 hours and I am amazed how much better I am hearing around me. It's somewhat shocking. There is a setting (transparency) that somehow allows the ambient noises around you to get to your ear unemcumbered so wearing them doesn't give you a plugged ear feeling.

This development has come with one realization though.. my lovely wife Oh-Ma is a mumbler... For years she would mumble something or another only to elicit a "i'm sorry?" from me which irriatated her to no end. Now I hear her mumbles quite clearly and while I am sure I missed some quality inputs from her there was a bunch of noise made from her end that no man would/could decipher.

Technology is really beginning to overwhelm my Oh-Pa brain. I just had a client use AI to compose a song for/about me that is incedible. He did it in minutes.. The next 10 years will be incredible as the pace of invention picks up.

HOOPS: Takeaways from Texas Tech's 101-57 romp over Lamar pres. by B-Run Sports

Not mentioned in here but helluva game from Christian Anderson. His best showing of the season so far and that's gotta make you feel good getting into conference play.

WR Room

@staff do yall have any insight as to why it looks like we replaced Josh Kelly with more of an outside receiver type player in Virgil? Are one of Douglas, Coy, or Virgil going to move to the Y spot? Not sure who would play the H but it definitely looks like we want to have more of a downfield passing attack so just curious if Leftwich's philosophy dictated the WR we decided to go after.
