Baylor Linebacker, Matt Jones

I don't know if you remember, or you may not care, and it was two years ago. But, Matt Jones, a SR Linebacker for Baylor called out Tech fans for being "Fake Fans" back in 2022. I would hope that the Tech faithful, who will be there Saturday, could provide the type of "atmosphere" that Mr. Jones would find more "appropriate" shall we say.

Maybe I am wrong on this issue. I will certainly listen to any opposing opinions.

Just a trip down memory lane.

Baylor’s Matt Jones Calls Out Texas Tech’s ‘Fake Fans’ After Win in Lubbock

Baylor Bears junior linebacker Matt Jones talks Texas Tech fans, turnovers and keys to victory in Lubbock

Denton Ramsey | Oct 31, 2022

With the Baylor football team picking up the school’s first road win in Lubbock since 1990, Bears junior linebacker Matt Jones didn’t hold back when asked about breaking that streak.

Especially when asked about silencing the Texas Tech crowd on Saturday night.

“It was awesome,” Jones said. “I remember seeing them just leaving early, even when they had a chance. Just seeing them leave early, I guess you could call them some fake fans but it was just nice.”

So what did Jones think of the crowd noise in Lubbock compared to, say, the game in Provo, Utah?

“I thought BYU was more electric, more intensified,” Jones said. “I didn’t think their [Texas Tech’s] fans or crowd really brought it like we were expecting. I think we had high expectations as to what we were going to expect coming into the game with the crowd and how it could be a distraction, but I don’t think it really distracted us one bit.”

Tech’s Remaining Schedule

Some thoughts on our remaining schedule for the bye week:

Vs Baylor
While we have the bye week to prep, so does Baylor. Our offense is fairly simple, and I expect Aranda to have a solid gameplan. I’m expecting their best game to date.

@ TCU
Similar to @Arizona, there won’t be much of a home field advantage. They’re going to want this game bad. Sonny will want something to sell the fanbase, and a win over Tech is it.

@Iowa State
I have no expectations for this game. Easily our toughest of the season. ISU has 2 weeks to prep for this game.

Vs Colorado
This is a “Trust DeRuyter” game. I have a lot of faith in him to contain Hunter and selectively attack their OL.

@ Oklahoma State
Been a fan long enough to know not to take this game lightly, but OSU has substantial issues at key positions. Probably the most winnable game we’ve had against them in a long time.

Vs West Virginia
Greene scares me, and the crowd will be light on Thanksgiving weekend.

The defense has taken massive strides forward. Massive. Were still pretty reliant on Lux to contain the other teams best receiver, which is why I’d rest him vs Baylor and TCU. We need him at 100% against the back portion of our schedule.

The offense has an identity. We take care of the ball, lean on Tahj to be Tahj and rely on our receivers to convert a few deep balls every game to keep the defense honest. Somehow the OL does enough. The Clay McGuire hire has paid off IMO.

Before the season, I had us at 9-3, and that’s probably still where I have us (closing out 4-2). 3-3 is more likely than 5-1, but this staff has a pattern of finishing strong.

OT: Video Games

Jedi: Survivor is getting released tomorrow. Jedi: Fallen Order is one of my favorite games of all time so I'm pretty pumped for it. This got me thinking of upcoming games and I'm curious what some of the gamers on RRS are looking forward to playing over the next couple years.

For me it's the following.
  • Jedi: Survivor
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Starfield
  • Outer Worlds 2
  • Star Wars Eclipse
  • Grand Theft Auto 6
  • KOTOR remake
  • Bioshock 4
  • Elder scrolls 6 (long way off at this point)
Edit: IDK how I forgot EA NCAA Football when it comes back next year.

HOOPS: Do you think Texas Tech will be ranked tomorrow?

John Fanta from FOX gives the Red Raiders a nod in his top 25. I haven’t seen many (if any) projections that have Tech in the AP top 25 coming out tomorrow, but I feel this squad could get ranked quickly.

Your thoughts? I’m personally still very much in football mode and don’t have a great grasp of many teams outside of the Big 12.

Dellenger: With expanded College Football Playoff field, these 20 teams have lost but are still alive

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Losses (1): at Washington State, 37-16

What’s left: Four of Tech’s final six opponents have a .500 or worse record and just one ranked team lies ahead (at Iowa State).

Why there’s hope: Tech is one of three one-loss Big 12 teams on this list. The league is a smorgasbord of parity. The one thing that separates the Red Raiders: their loss is out of conference. They remain undefeated in the league and with a path to the title game for an automatic bid. That Nov. 2 duel in Ames is a big one.
