Some Positives From This Weekend

My 6 year old daughter and 5 year old son had an amazing time in Lubbock. Even with our 4 hour delay at the airport getting to Lubbock and hour delay getting home, they can’t wait to go back with the younger 2 and mom.

Big thanks to @carnley09 for help with the tickets and @martaylo and @LondonRedRaider for the tailgate.

They got to see Raider Walk, crush hot dogs and nachos, and throw tortillas. Hit up Pancake House and One Guys which they loved.

They were upset that we lost because “Baylor is a bunch of cheaters”.

🚨Texas Tech Soccer Beats Cincinnati 3-0 to Set Up Big 12 Championship Opportunity on Friday in Lubbock. BE THERE!

No. 19 Texas Tech Soccer handled business winning 3-0 on the road at Cincinnati to move to 13-2-2 overall and 8-0-2 in conference. The team now has an opportunity to win a second consecutive Big 12 Championship with a win on Friday over a very salty BYU, unlike last seasons championship however this one they could cap off at home. How often do you get the chance to cheer on a Texas Tech team in Lubbock as they fight for a Big 12 title right in front of you? BE THERE, BE EARLY, BE LOUD! Friday 7pm vs. BYU.

And before anyone goes down the ranking rabbit hole again, rankings for Ncaa soccer do not come out until Tuesday each week so No. 19 is where they were last week prior to their two road wins over WVU and Cincy.

Monday morning thoughts

I was pissed , as we all were , and if JM had been next to me I would have chewed his ass out. A relaxing Sunday helps heal the wounds. I looked at the 2022 and 2023 seasons and it's no secret JM's play better in November.

2022 - laid an egg vs Baylor at home. Lost next game @ TCU ( this has me worried ) then went on to win 4 in a row.

2023 - laid an egg vs BYU and then won 4 of 5 with lone loss to UT.

Before I make any decisions about 2024 season tickets or MC contributions ( which they would not even notice if it stopped ) I'm going to see how the season plays out. 9-3 is possible but so is 6-6.

I know we have guys with legit size but I question our strength and physicality. Both the OL and DL get pushed around. This is my main concern , way more so than coaching.

3 Predictions for this upcoming week (updated)

As most of you know, I am rarely wrong about anything I can remember saying.

Prediction #1: You will be inundated with a barrage of political calls and text messages, like never before, this coming week. ✅

Prediction #2: The Los Angeles Dodgers will win the NLCS and play the NY Yankees in the World Series. ✅

Prediction #3: The Texas Tech Red Raiders will march into Cowtown Saturday and give TCU a good ol' West Texas Ass Kicking and march out like...

OL/DL recruiting

I’m ready to lie, cheat, and steal to improve these two sides of the ball. The NCAA has little to no power these days, so throw the rule book out the window and make it happen. If we are serious about winning championships, we will spend every last dime in the athletic departments bank to make it happen. If a kid isn’t interested to play in Lubbock, make him interested. If he has character issues, assign him a buddy. It has to improve.

We are 7 point underdogs with a 5-2 record versus TCU 4-3 record.

Probably the underdogs status is due to the OT with ACU and the blowouts to to Washington State and Baylor. TCU however lost to UCF and Houston. Utah form my prospective had been overrated all year long. I know our record right now looks better than the quality of team and talent we have but I am still surprised that we are that much of an underdog. Also Baylor is favored by 8 over Oke State. The game with us may have helped with that. Oklahoma State still has much more talent on offense than Baylor. The big 12 is truly a conference that anyone in the conference can beat anyone. It is a weak conference and BYU which is undefeated is really not a very good team and could easily lose to anyone in the Big 12.

The Caitlin Clark effect

The girl has single handily elevated women's college basketball like no other in history. More eyes watching that sport than ever before both in person and on TV.

It will be interesting to see if she can do this with the wnba?
There are built in fan bases in college sports that teams can build on. That isn't true for the wnba. Their average attendance is UP just to the point to be slightly ahead of the Lady Raiders average attendance.
Can Clark elevate the professional game as much as she did the college game?

I think initially she absolutely will. Both in person attendance and broadcast.
But....will it be sustainable? The WNBA desperately needs her to be successful imo. If she struggles it will be to the detriment of that league.

I believe she will be a target for players and that's rightfully so in many cases. An upstart young girl coming in to their league, probably making 5-10 times ( or more)what any of them will make when you count endorsements and trying to shut her down is the natural response.

It will be fascinating to watch.

An Infuriating Look

This is just clown shit. Look at me! Look how dialed in I am to go do my job. Yay! Woooo!

The fact that this behavior, attitude and culture is, in any way, allowed is pathetic. Bill Bedenbaugh might have done a murder on this kid if he was his OL coach.

****ING OF COURSE he and the unit he is a leader of got its shit pushed in all day.

I’m doing everything I can to not be out on Joey yet, but this kind of stuff really makes it hard to justify.

This is how losers act. This isn’t real football.
