Gameday Atmosphere

It doesn’t make me feel better about the game results, but I’d just like to say that TCU’s Gameday experience is a complete joke. Crowd was super sparse at kickoff, it was not loud at any point from crowd noise, and they had to pump their band playing through microphones to play on the loudspeaker during the game. All this on a homecoming game against a rival. I’d hate to have to go watch games there all season.

📰 Texas Tech Drops Thriller Late to BYU, Looks to Respond at Big 12 ⚽ Tournament in Kansas City

Heartbreaker as Texas Tech drops one late to BYU and narrowly misses out on back-to-back Big 12 regular season championships. BYU was class as always in possession particularly without Soto (injured for Tech in Cincy game) holding down the midfield which was a concern going in. But Texas Tech hopefully will take confidence in the fact they had arguably the more dangerous build up moments, in this and it took two free kick wonders from a top 10 BYU offense to score. Kudos to them on both though as it was pretty stuff.

It has been getting better of late but the final touch bit them again tonight but on the positive side I really think Taylor Zdrojewski is going to be a star for this team. RS-So. this season she scored Texas Tech's goal in this (off a ridiculous Blackburn service, she was brilliant in this one as always) but more than that had a silly no look back flick that probably should have led to the game winner but the shot went off the post from Parsons. With Super Sam back from injury creating next year alongside Macy and all the top returning producers from this years team plus whoever they bring in, she could get 15 goals. Heck add in 10 assists for a 15/10 season before she graduates if they get her the right partner in crime....bookmark it.

Been enjoyable watching this team make a this run despite the adversity, wish it had ended in confetti but thats life. Maybe it will come in KC instead. Hoping the finishing is a bit cleaner now that a lot of these less experienced players have some postseason type stress under their belt so they can finish the season with some more fun for the seniors. RPI dropped some with loss (another reason that late goal to lose the draw stings so much) so they may need a run to the Big 12 champ game to feel good about getting a home ncaa tourney game otherwise it's road warriors they go. Please win quarterfinal game so the committee cant get too cute tho. They have a first round bye in Big 12 tournament but will face the winner of Arizona and Baylor on Nov 2nd at 530 pm. ESPN+. Wreck em!

Missed Opportunities

This entire season is defined by missed opportunities. Yes, the losses themselves are kicks to the stomach but what dissapoints me the most is this program's inability to capture momentum and building off it.

Coming off Arizona, this season had a chance to be something special. With BU and TCU on the plate, you really had a dynamite chance to separate yourself into the upper echelon of the league this year. Think about it. If you handle these two in-state rivals, you would be 7-1 headed into a top 25 matchup with ISU. Even if you go play .500 at that point you're looking at a 9 win season. On top of that, you would have beaten these two schools in back to back years for the first time under this regime.

The good that would come from that would catapult every aspect of the program into levels not seen in almost two decades. I cannot stop thinking about the what was left on the table this season. Who knows how long it will be before we get another opportunity to really distance ourselves from BU and TCU. I hate the fact that this football program just keeps shooting themselves in the dick year after year.

2 back with Brooks and Williams

I’d love to see us come out with some two back sets with Brooks and Williams.

William’s break away speed just hits a different gear than Brooks. Faking the inside zone to Brooks then coming off the edge with Williams would put defenders in a tough position. If they key in on Brooks, the corner could open up for Williams. If the linebackers sit back, Brooks steam rolls them.

Additionally, Brooks doing a little lead blocking would be an interesting twist. His speed may not translate to the NFL, but teams that want to use a fullback/H back might give him a good look at that type of position.

What do the rest of you Monday morning OCs think?

Finding ways to lose

Yesterday Tech found a way to lose. We were sailing and decided to mail it in on offense and then the defense needed to play a perfect game and can’t.

Arizona, Arizona State, Cincinnati we bigly tried to lose those game with an offense that was so inept it struggled to respond.

Our defense is young and decimated with injury, our defense is not going to win games when the offense can’t take advantage of turnovers. That should be the delineator for a struggling defense still finding ways to win.

Now on to ACU, no one wants to talk about it on this board but it’s clear that game is a much bigger deal. We SHOULDVE lost that game with a semi decent 2 pt play but Patterson gave us a gift and a W. There is something wrong culturally when you are up 3 possessions on ACU and can’t close the door and should’ve lost. We’ve kept the same culture from Week 1.

Then completely no shows for Wazzou and Baylor. Completely unacceptable, lethargic, uninspired play.

The culture in Tech football has a problem and they need to figure it out. Zero killer instinct on this team, zero emotion on the sidelines and playing with their tail between their legs even when up big. No lead is safe with this group.

There is a reason typical Tech is a phrase and this incompetent coaching staff has only furthered this trend.

K-State/Iowa State

Both the Wildcats and Cyclones were outplayed for much of their last games tonight and last week by KU and UCF but found ways to win late to stay right at the top of the Big 12 race.

Texas Tech, outplaying TCU for most of the game, found a way to lose late to fall out of the Big 12 race.

That's the difference between a winning culture and losing culture.

Worse than wells

Our best year was year 1 under the current staff. As far as coaching goes, this staff is worse than Wells and Co. Depressing but true. What an embarrassment this staff is to our University. They have so much more than Leach ever had. They should not ever mention Leach b/c they are not in the same stratosphere that he is. Pathetic. Cowards.

Y'all got any potential OC candidates?

The experiment of letting the first time, D1 P4 HC hire a 31-year-old first time P4 OC has gone on long enough, and I am no longer interested. There has been some individual successes (solid O-recruiting, 1,500 yards rusher, some decent point totals on the board at the end of games), but he's inconsistent, is in charge of a 'soft' offense and, overall, a maddening play caller at times. He also seemingly does not want to consistently do what Joey wants out of his OC.... but I'm not an expert.

I'm ultimately worried about Joey's preferred candidates being on staff already like a Josh Cochran or Juice who are unfortunately just as green as Kittley, even if they are 'really sharp' (just like people say about Kittley... 🤢)

Do you fire Kittley and give one of those guys the chance to prove themselves? What happens when they look decent in their 'tryout' and you pull the trigger on them as full time OC, only then to potentially be in the same position as now (new-to-this-level HC paired with an OC with the same lack of experience)?

Do you pay big money for a proven OC, a Tim Deruyter equivalent but for offense? Does Tech have that money? Or am I overrating 'experience' in an OC hire and you really just need to find someone who at the core is already an offensive fit for what Joey wants to do? Do we know what that is?

Anyways... what say y'all?
