Y'all got any potential OC candidates?

The experiment of letting the first time, D1 P4 HC hire a 31-year-old first time P4 OC has gone on long enough, and I am no longer interested. There has been some individual successes (solid O-recruiting, 1,500 yards rusher, some decent point totals on the board at the end of games), but he's inconsistent, is in charge of a 'soft' offense and, overall, a maddening play caller at times. He also seemingly does not want to consistently do what Joey wants out of his OC.... but I'm not an expert.

I'm ultimately worried about Joey's preferred candidates being on staff already like a Josh Cochran or Juice who are unfortunately just as green as Kittley, even if they are 'really sharp' (just like people say about Kittley... 🤢)

Do you fire Kittley and give one of those guys the chance to prove themselves? What happens when they look decent in their 'tryout' and you pull the trigger on them as full time OC, only then to potentially be in the same position as now (new-to-this-level HC paired with an OC with the same lack of experience)?

Do you pay big money for a proven OC, a Tim Deruyter equivalent but for offense? Does Tech have that money? Or am I overrating 'experience' in an OC hire and you really just need to find someone who at the core is already an offensive fit for what Joey wants to do? Do we know what that is?

Anyways... what say y'all?

Turning the corner

Serious question, interested in peoples opinions. Why does Tech football never seem to be able to turn the corner/page from mediocrity and self sabotage, no matter who we hire? BYU may win a conference championship before Tech. Seems like every other program has their 15 minutes of fame and national relevance, except for Tech. Why is it so hard for this program to be successfull for any length of time

Coaching Staff Fear Of QB Injury

This is the second year in a row they have coached their QBs this way. With fear. If you all remember just last year, they had Shough on a major leash in regards to his mobility (his best asset as a QB) and it really ****ed with his natural play (and he still got hurt!). There were several times in the Wyoming game he could have broke runs and didnt that ended up being incompletions. He even tripped over his own feet against both Wyoming and Oregon trying to reign himself in when he naturally wanted to scramble but was told not to. Could have made major differences in both of those close games. Games we lost.

The same thing I fear is playing out with Morton this year. They are trying to make, in terms of style, Brett Favre play like Tom Brady. Its ****ing idiotic. Let the kid play his style and make everything else fit that instead of making him fit into something that isn't him. Who gives a shit if he gets hurt again if the healthy player you get instead cant play naturally?

A few things I am excited about

A few positive Tech things I am excited about from this week and looking forward to in the next two
  • Our Women's soccer team came in 2nd this year in the Big 12. We had a ton of injures and really proud of the girls to almost pull it off.
  • Men's basketball is starting on November 5th (10 days). It will be really fun to watch Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders being ready to start the season. Looking in as a 4th seed but have a lot of upside on this team.
  • Men's XC won the Arturo Barrios Invitational (Aggie meet) and look to have a chance at the Big 12 title
  • We got to see the future today at QB and RB today.

Where are we 2.5 years into this coaching staff?

Feels like we are a marginally better program than we were under Wells (winning B12 record two years in a row), but it also feels like we are trending in the wrong direction.

Winning conference record this year looks questionable; recruiting seems to be down; the best team in this staff’s era was full of Wells’ players, etc.

What am I missing? Nearly three years in, and it seems like we’re going sideways and possibly backwards.

To make it even worse…

None of that shit show to end the game would have been necessary if we don’t get flagged for a dumb ass facemask penalty by Jordan (I think) on the WR in the third quarter. It was totally unnecessary but correct call.

It’s 31-14. It would have been 3 and out and a TCU punt. I don’t think even Tech blows it at that point. Instead TCU goes down to score and stays in the game, 34-21.

You know what, never mind. What am I saying? Of course, they still would have found a way to blow it. My bad.

Apologies to Coach McG and Zach

I have reevaluated my ugly comments about both of you guys. I now see that the BMDs hiring this tandem is a work of genius even though they may know very little about hiring coaches and my appreciation goes out to Cody and all who brought us Joey and Zach. I think Joey is probably one the hottest up and coming coaches in college football. A true defensive genius and Zach has proven himself week in and week out that he has an unmatched talent as the top young OC in football. We need to do whatever is necessary to keep these guys because Oklahoma this year and probably Texas Georgia and Ohio State in the future will come calling for them. Please Joey and Zach don’t ever leave Tech. Thank you BMDs for hiring what has now been proven to be the best football hire in the history of Tech football. And thank you Joey for not being pressured into playing our only 5 star receiver ever and congratulations on the upcoming recruiting class. It is going to be one of the best ever. I predict you guys will lead us to the CFP this year and many many times in the future. Thanks again for all the great things you do for Tech and know we are truly blessed to have such capable leaders for this team. TIC

Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, and Houston

All of our biggest competitors—Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, and Houston—are trending downward fast. We need to win all of these matchups, except for Houston, who inexplicably isn’t on our schedule this year.

The jury is still out on Texas Tech’s season, and there’s plenty of reason to be pessimistic given how some of our games have played out, but the reality is that we’re 4-1 and I wouldn’t trade our position for any of these rivals. This is a huge opportunity for McGuire and Tech to finally get a leg up on these programs. Let’s hope that starts tonight.

We just need Patience

Just be patient. In this ever changing time of college athletics where we’re potentially going to be left behind we just need to be patient. They’ll figure out how to win a game they’re up by 2 scores to finish a game. Kittley will definitely learn how to use the middle of the field or situational play calling with more time. Trust the process.
