I looked at the past non blue blood Big 12 champions and marked where they ranked in total defense.
2001 Colorado....44th
2003 K State......9th
2011 OK State....61st
2012 KState...28th
2013 Baylor ...49th
2014 Baylor...36th
Co champs TCU...... 8th
2021 Baylor.....10th
2022 KState.....29th
Only team outside the Top 50 was the 2011 OK State team at 61.
I haven't looked but I think ranked 61 would be our best defense in 25 years . Most would think that we had a good defense in 2008 yet that defense was ranked 78th.
OK State , K State, TCU and Baylor mostly recruit about where we do yet they have multiple 10 win seasons, conference championships and top 10 finishes . The biggest difference is defense.
I'm not asking for us to fire anyone but maybe we as fans need higher expectations from that side of the ball.
That's it. Tech won. It was a very good win, regardless of how it happened or what led up to the win. It was a bowl eligible win, on the road, against an undefeated team. Celebrating this one, even though there were a lot of things during the game that didn't go the way many wanted.

This wasn’t pretty, but gosh dammit what a win. We NEVER win those type of games. Mid 4th quarter clock management was less than stellar, but, we put together 2 HUGE drives to seal that thing. Matt Campbell’s crease in his hat makes me want to puke. 6-3, bowl eligible and 9 toed Deion coming to LBK for what is hopefully the most difficult environment that team has played in their lives. Wreck Em forever and keep your foot in the damn tire!
Wasn’t a big fan of the costly mistakes as a result of him being subbed in throughout the game but I think someone should point out that he manhandled his guy on that final play for the Brooks score. I mean just took the guy straight through the end zone with that block. So well done!
You could hear the emotion in Joey's answers after the game...meant everything for them to get back on track.
Also, really proud of Behren for making it happen, he made some big mistakes, and had other plays where others let him down, and he kept fighting through it all and found a freakin' way.

I doubt that holds at all; I don't bet on Tech games but for those who do Colorado +4.5 seems like a no-brainer. (I hate the thought of betting against Tech, but my heart makes a shit ton of mistakes that my head doesn't.).
