Collin County TTAA Chapter Update and events

Hey RRS,

Down here in Collin County we are kicking off our new season with some exciting new events and want to share the news. Some of your very own, @Daddyrusses @RaiderSmoke @bpillers @pardaddy @msands99 @TTURedRaider2020 @LondonRedRaider and many more Red Raiders are putting together a great lineup of events this year.

We are bringing back the often asked for Casino Night! This will be hosted on 11/15 at On the Marquee in Frisco. This will be a a red carpet event with cocktail attire. OPEN BAR, black jack, craps, roulette tables and more. This will be limited seating so I will bump the thread with registration when it goes live.

In addition we do have sponsorship opportunities available if anyone wants to get involved. DM for details.

Next event is a banking/CRE networking event hosted at Gleneagles CC on October 22nd. This is meant to be exclusive to Red Raiders in CRE and Banking. If you know anyone wanting to attend please send a DM and we’ll get you the information. This is an invite only event meant to build mentor/mentee opportunities and network among Red Raiders.

Next we are bringing back our golf tournament and pre party from last year.
This year the pre party will be held at a Haggard Barn on MONDAY 5/19. For those there last year, you know how great this event was and we look to have a great time this year as well.

The 2nd Annual Raider Cup will be held on TUESDAY 5/20 at StoneBridge Ranch CC the Hills Course. More details to follow.

Sponsorship opportunities also available for both pre party and Raider Cup. DM for more details.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz facing one-game suspension for recruiting violation

Maybe they will open up the offense for that one game.

Just a dad here working my network and connections for my son (job related).

***UPDATE at bottom of OP***

My son has been waiting on his past two paychecks and getting the run around. Finally found out today that his company is in bad shape and they are not going to be able to pay him his weekly salary for the past two weeks. They said he was welcome to continue as commission only (he was getting a small base plus commission) but they have not inventory or stock and everything he has sold, they are unable to fulfil. It sucks, because he was so excited for this opportunity when it came around last year.

He is not on RRS, but many of you know him. He's a good kid looking to make it in sales. He has a background in sales and customer service/support as well as other unique talents. Would love to put him in contact with any fellow Tech guys and gals that would be in a position to talk to him about opportunities.

He lives in Aubrey so would be looking for the DFW area with travel or remote ideal.

As an added bonus, him and his wife are expecting our first grandchild, so I would be grateful for any opportunities that might come his way since he has a mortgage and a new baby to take care of.

Message me if you I can put him in contact with you. I want to help him with my network, but it's on him to earn anything he is offered.

***The opportunty that he chose to go with fell through after he received his offer letter and wasted a month setting up for, so we are back at the beginning.

Question: What is the consensus of this board

Regarding UT and OU’s success in the SEC i this coming season.
If one or both former Big 12 teams perform well, will their performance put a brighter light on the Big 12 in the minds of the college sports world?
UT has a softer schedule than OU, and the “consensus” seems to indicate the horns will be in the top two in the SEC at season’s end, and that OU has a tougher schedule and will finish between 6th and 9th.
As a longtime Tech fan I hate to see either team doing well. I also suspect that most of the sports world will NOT see the Big 12 in a brighter light regardless of either of these teams success, but maybe I have suffered from the “Tech Fan Syndrome” which states Texas Tech will never get the benefit of the doubt in any circumstance.
But an Ok St fan tried to convince me that any successes either of these teams enjoy in the SEC this season will cast the Big 12 as a tougher conference than most of the country thinks.
What say you?

CBS Sports: Big 12 expert picks 2024: Most overrated and underrated teams, projected order of finish, bold predictions

After all the hype we got last year I'm kind of surprised that literally no one is talking about us at all this year. There is a little bit of love in this article, but I'm still surprised that we're almost universally picked in the mid to lower tiers. I think we're a 9+ win team with our schedule, and I also think KU is overrated again.

@TCU Oct 26

After laughing with Kirby about the TCU AD trying to keep Tech fans from taking over his stadium, I decided to go look at the other home games TCU plays this year to see if I could unload the other tickets to the other TCU home games.
Sep 07 someone called LIU
Sep 14 UCF
Oct 04 Houston
Nov 09 OSU
Nov 23 Arizona

I am thinking that I could list the tickets to the first 3 games and not get a call.

OSU is a possible if I knew someone from OSU but they can buy individual tickets to the game. Same with Arizona. So if you buy the season ticket to get into the Tech TCU game, you are probably eating a majority of the tickets.

STORY: Why Chapman Lewis is the rightful heir to the free safety throne pres. by BHW Law

Chap has been penciled in to follow up Rabbit basically since last season ended.

It’s a tough job to do, but I certainly think he’s plenty capable.

Moving to Austin

Recently received good news (for me) that I’ve been approved for a transfer to my work’s Austin office. I know I know, Austin sucks etc. But as a single 32yo guy moving from El Paso, this is a huge upgrade. Any recommendations on best neighborhoods for a single guy to live in? Planning on apartment living for at least a year or two and pretty flexible on rent but would like to keep it under $2k/month. TIA

STORY: McGuire speaks on starters potentially becoming more clear in both trenches, defensive secondary pres. by BHW Law

Good conversation with the head coach today. Full breakdown of what the offensive and defensive lines are shaping up to be in the article linked. Secondary is coming together, essentially complete if I had to say.

Good nuggets throughout.

- Mike Dingle is back practicing, as is Mason Tharp.
- Expect a kicking competition between Gino Garcia and Reese Burkhardt. Joey likened this to what they did two years ago with Trey Wolff and Gino.
- Josh Kelly will likely be the PR. Jordan Brown and Micah Hudson are "2A and 2B"
- My own personal takeaway is it is good to hear the younger offensive linemen getting good shouts, particularly a freshman who will likely not factor in but sounds like is off to a great start.

Big 12 2024 Preview - Thoughts and Comments Welcome

The genesis of this whole endeavor started when me and some friends started arguing about how we should rank and tier the Big 12 teams. I took it upon myself to try and objectively review, rate, and rank these teams based on their projected starting rosters.

I ran through what happened last year mainly using GameOnPaper and SP+. Read some team recaps and documented all of the high level statistical changes. I then had to take a look at each individual roster position and assign each group a score, 1-20, which was then weighted according to positional value. (A good QB is worth more than a good TE, for example) 20 being an elite unit with no flaws whatsoever, 1 being the worst unit in FBS.

I then had to assign coaching grades for both offense and defense to offset some of the clear developmental and schematic advantages certain teams have (or don't have) to arrive at a final adjusted offensive and defensive score.

Plugged all of these numbers into a projected schedule and arrived at win totals. Take a look and let me know what you think.

NOTES - The documents I plugged in all of my thoughts and reasoning are far from a finished product, I was hoping to edit them into a much more digestible format, but Baby #2 arriving any day now is forcing my hand. As I went, I tried to clip at least one video or article about each player departing or entering or playing significant minutes, but this became pretty time consuming and wasn't able to do this consistently.

- There are clearly flaws in this model, it has not been back tested, or analytically proven in any way shape or form. I tried to be consistent and objective in assigning point totals for each position group, but there was no strict rubric, and inconsistencies are doubtless included. My apologies in advance when you discover them.

- Some teams (cough cough, Colorado) have a ton of information about projected depth charts and transfer additions, others, (looking at you Baylor) have almost no free content and some of my depth chart predictions are going to be wrong.

- This was meant to be a fun exercise for me to really deep dive Big 12 teams in a way I hadn't before and I had a ton of fun. Do with it what you will!

- Big shout out to CFBDepth.com for helping me get advanced grades on players for free.

Voting 2024

Typing this up as my super conservative wife watches the DNC coverage. She and her parents, also super conservative, watched it the last few nights when they were here. My father in law and mother in law used to be in politics and have never voted anything but republican.

They live in Texas so inevitably going to be a red state this year. They say they will vote Kamala just so Trump doesn’t get their vote. They hate the man, that much.

To me, a vote for Kamala in Texas is like not voting at all. But to each their own. I’m not even a registered voter in Texas. Still have my Arkansas DL. So I won’t be voting. But I couldn’t not vote for the republican nominee, no matter how many porn stars he’s banged and continues to bang. I just can’t bring myself to do it.

What about you? Are you sticking to your guns regardless of who is running for your side? Sitting it out? Jumping parties for the election the. Back to your original side? Jumping over for good?
