Lubbock weather forecast - Abilene Christian

Finally...a cooldown and good chance for rain. Of course, it could've happened some time last month and not this weekend.

Good news is the best timeframe for rain is earlier Friday. There is still a decent chance for a shower or thunderstorm Saturday morning, trending lower through the day Saturday.

Kickoff near 82, dropping to the low-mid 70s by the end of the game. Wind out of the NE/E 5-15mph. Rain chance about 20-30% Saturday evening. Partly cloudy sky.

Sunset is at 8:13 Saturday. Just walking around the campus and outside south end zone when it was dark last night, facility looks incredible. With some clouds in place, it hopefully will be a real nice sunset Saturday night. And no, the sunset is not most important thing I'm looking forward to Saturday, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Tyler Shough appreciation thread

No QB is going to throw for 400 yards and five TDs against a top 10 and Big 12’s best defense in that weather.

But he played winning football.

He was 15 of 21 for 141 yards and a touchdown. More importantly, against that Cloud defense that usually eats spread QBs for dinner, he did not throw an interception. Repeat: He did not have a pick.

He had a QBR of 143.5. And this was in 3 degree wind chill.

On the game-winning drive, he was 5 of 6 and the TD. In addition, his tough runs allowed us to run out the clock.

I’m sorry none of this as clever or succinct as Shough sucks.

Shough is a great kid

He plays hard.. He’s a great leader by example…. He’s tough..

However.. once again, the difference in the two teams tonight was the QB position. Theirs was better than ours.

Shough just isn’t a winner. He’s an awkward athlete. He was directly responsible for all 4 turnovers. Taking the last one away, because it was necessary, he’s still responsible for the three worst plays of the evening. He was reckless with the ball in key moments.

All of the noise about Morton throwing picks in practice is rather comical at this point. Any credit given to Shough for practice should be thrown out the window.

It’s time to see what we have with Morton. Anyone that has watched him perform agrees that he probably has the best arm talent seen at Tech not named Patrick Mahomes. It’s time!

RELEASE: Texas Tech announces the closing of The Campaign for Fearless Champions

The initiative has successfully closed 10 years since it was first launched. Here’s the full release:

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics celebrated Friday the end of The Campaign for Fearless Champions, officially closing the most-successful fundraising initiative in its history with more than $500 million raised towards facilities and student-athlete resources.

It was 10 years ago this month when Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby declared “we believe we have a bold future in front of us.” Hocutt’s bold vision would transform Texas Tech’s athletic facilities across every sport, while also pouring resources into the student-athlete experience through scholarships, academic resources, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition and the creation of the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Department of Student-Athlete Development.

"It is with great pride, we celebrate the tremendous success of The Campaign for Fearless Champions," Hocutt said. "From the start, our goal was to position Texas Tech Athletics to compete at the highest levels. Thanks to our generous donors at every level, we are ready to achieve that goal.”

Under Hocutt’s watch, Texas Tech has bolstered its athletic facilities through the Campaign with the world-class Whitacre Athletic Complex and Sports Performance Center, the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center, the Texas Tech baseball team facility and Cash Family Nutrition Center, among others. The Campaign officially closes with the completion of the flagship project, the South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium and the Dustin R. Womble Football Center, a $242 million project that opens this season.

"Thank you to every donor at every level for your incredible generosity and unwavering support over the past decade,” said Senior Associate Athletics Director Andrea Tirey. “Your contributions to The Campaign for Fearless Champions have directly enhanced athletic facilities and enriched the lives of our student-athletes. Your investment is a commitment to excellence and a belief in the future of Texas Tech Athletics.”

With the completion of the final Campaign projects, Texas Tech will transition its fundraising initiatives to meet the current needs of today’s student-athletes. Texas Tech previously announced in June 2023 a modernization effort to the Red Raider Club to maximize the value it delivers to student-athletes, which now includes promoting and assisting in the fundraising efforts for The Matador Club, the official NIL collective of the athletics department. That effort will increase in the coming months as Texas Tech continues to evolve with the changing world of intercollegiate athletics.

“Texas Tech has proven to be a national leader in the NIL space and will continue to do so as we transition our fundraising efforts even more to current student-athlete priorities,” Hocutt said. “Texas Tech Athletics intends to compete at the highest level in all that we do, and I firmly believe our best days are ahead of us due to the support we receive each and every day.”

Looking for Tickets to the Colorado Game

After a long 9 years of not seeing a Tech football game in Lubbock, my Dad and I decided we need to make the trip to see a game this year. We landed on the Colorado game. I realize tickets to this game in particular are going to be more hotly sought after than others. Anyone have any tips for scooping some decent seats at a reasonable price? Right now I've just been casually looking at the second hand seller sites. Should I just lock in what I can find now or am I safe to wait a little closer to the start of the season? Wreck em!
