Dripping Springs and Austin peeps, who would be down for a game watching hangout or happy hour sometime? I've been noticing more and more people from Dripping pop up on here so I wanted to get something together. Austinites, y'all are obviously welcome to come down too!

Once we get interest we can get a group chat going.

Big 12 Thursday night thread

Season kicks off tonight with four Big 12 teams:

New Hampshire at UCF, 6 p.m.
N. Dakota St. at Colorado, 7 p.m.
Lindenwood (an apartment complex in Overland Park, Kan.) vs. Kansas, 7 p.m.
Southern Utah at Utah, 8 p.m.

Figure it might be better to have one clearinghouse for all games to post that these Big 12 teams are obviously overrated and that Tech would crush them (but are only playing one during the regular season).

Wildcat Chat (ACU Forum)

Not seeing anything too crazy in there prediction wise. One dude thinks ACU wins but most people just think they’ll cover the +32.5 spread.

You guys remember the Northern Kentucky forum we found before the 2019 NCAA Tournament game where 1 dude was just talking to himself and kept banning all of us who signed up? That was awesome lol.

GrimTrader is right

You may not like his arrogance, but I believe he is right. The best QB of the three is Donovan Smith. I would not have said that in January.

We need availability as much as ability. Shough obviously couldn’t stay healthy. Morton’s frame is so slight. He still looks like he did at Eastland. He is not going to be able to take the punishment. He’s listed at 215 pounds. But there is no way. No way.

Donovan makes plays. He takes hits . After a slow start, he’s 15 of 21 for 164 and two TDs in the first half against Texas. He’s played T a higher level than Shough and Morton all season. He’s only going to get better.

Those who think the best of the three is in the Tech campus only say that because they want to believe it. There is no evidence otherwise. McGuire and offensive coaches seemed to have erred.

Who is better?

  • WR - Micah Hudson

    Votes: 52 53.1%
  • OL - Caleb Rogers

    Votes: 46 46.9%

Caleb Rogers only received 29% of the vote for 10th Best Player on the Team, so even though he won the plurality, he has to go up against the second place vote getter for that spot, which is Micah Hudson.

Caleb Rogers - Honorable Mention All Big XII in 2023, 42 career starts!!!

Micah Hudson - 1st 5* recruit in the Rivals dot com era, explosive athlete

Who do we pick here to finish off the list?

Exciting times for the Red Raiders! If Morton stays healthy we go 10-2.

1. Behren Morton

A Promising New Talent

Behren Morton has entered Texas Tech with considerable anticipation. Known for his strong arm, athleticism, and poise under pressure, Morton is viewed as a quarterback who can lead the Red Raiders with both skill and confidence. His high school career showcased his potential, with impressive performances that caught the attention of scouts and analysts.

Elevating the Offense

One of Morton’s immediate impacts on Texas Tech is expected to be his ability to elevate the offensive play. His strong arm can stretch the field, providing the Red Raiders with a deep passing threat that can open up the game. Morton’s accuracy and decision-making are anticipated to enhance the efficiency of the offense, making it more versatile and unpredictable.

Furthermore, Morton’s athleticism allows him to be a dual-threat quarterback. His mobility can add a new dimension to the Red Raiders’ offensive strategy, enabling him to make plays both through the air and on the ground. This capability could prove vital in a conference known for its competitive and dynamic defenses.

Leadership and Team Dynamics

Beyond his physical attributes, Morton is expected to make a significant impact in terms of leadership. Effective quarterbacks are often the leaders of their teams, and Morton’s presence is likely to inspire confidence and cohesion among his teammates. His ability to communicate effectively with the coaching staff and his fellow players will be crucial in establishing a strong team dynamic.

Impact on Recruitment and Program Prestige

Morton’s arrival at Texas Tech also has implications for the program’s broader recruitment efforts. High-profile recruits often look at the presence of talented players and successful programs when making their decisions. Morton’s success and development could attract other top prospects to Texas Tech, further strengthening the program.

Moreover, as a promising talent in a competitive conference, Morton’s performance will contribute to enhancing Texas Tech’s reputation. A successful stint by Morton could position the Red Raiders as a formidable team in the college football landscape, boosting the program’s prestige and visibility.

Looking Ahead

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Behren Morton to see how he adapts to the collegiate level and how he influences Texas Tech’s performance. His potential to become a standout quarterback is evident, and his impact will likely be felt both on and off the field.

In summary, Beckett Morton’s arrival at Texas Tech brings a wave of optimism and potential. His skill set, leadership, and influence on recruitment could significantly shape the future of Red Raiders football. As Morton steps into the spotlight, his performance will be pivotal in determining the trajectory of Texas Tech’s football program.

2. Mahomes gives $5 million

In a groundbreaking move that is set to transform the landscape of college athletics, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has donated a remarkable $5 million to Texas Tech University’s Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) fund. This monumental gift not only underscores Mahomes's commitment to his alma mater but also represents a significant shift in how collegiate athletes can benefit from their personal brands.

A Generous Gesture

Patrick Mahomes, a Texas Tech alumnus and Super Bowl MVP, has long been celebrated for his contributions both on and off the field. His latest act of philanthropy, a $5 million donation to the Texas Tech NIL fund, highlights his dedication to supporting the next generation of student-athletes. This unprecedented gift is poised to make a profound impact on the university’s athletic programs and its athletes.

Transforming the NIL Landscape

The NIL fund at Texas Tech is designed to help student-athletes leverage their personal brand and secure endorsements, thus enhancing their financial opportunities while in college. Mahomes's substantial donation is expected to provide a significant boost to this initiative, allowing athletes across various sports to benefit from sponsorships, partnerships, and other revenue-generating activities.

This infusion of $5 million will likely enable Texas Tech to offer more competitive NIL packages, thereby attracting top-tier talent and retaining current standout athletes. The increased financial support will also allow for greater investment in facilities, training programs, and overall student-athlete development.
