Thinking about all of the different facets of having, building, maintaining a winning program, there are dozens of needs and requirements that must be present. Great recruiting, player development, fanbase buy-in/funding, dedication, hard work, consistency, facility upgrades, etc. The list is long and varied.
But thinking about Coach Beard and MBB, I think the most important quality of building a highly competitive program can be identified as:
Principled and Disciplined Approach - They have a specific and consistent way of operating, and are extremely diligent about those methods every single minute of every single day.
Wells and Beard might be completely different personalities, but as coaches, I think they both possess this characteristic in spades. I firmly believe Wells has what it takes to turn this into a competitive program and we will reap the fruits of his leadership sooner than later.
