That is the famous line from Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley, who with 27 national championships in 25 years there, is kind of the gold standard of college athletic directors. He was never afraid to make the tough decisions once he saw what needed to be done. It speaks to Tech's situation.
This is a terrible thing to say -- and if people want to say go KMS, I probably deserve it -- but the best thing for Tech long-term would be to get hammered by Baylor. There's not much to be gained by a win at this point, and everyone knows Baylor is scum and a win isn't changing anything for that cesspool.
In essence, you have to sometimes sacrifice a battle to win a war.
The pain of staying status-quo after a Baylor one-sided win has to be greater than the pain of eating a contract. Tech doesn't make a change unless it is so obvious that going through another year is absurd. It has got to be so bad that Hocutt finds the $9.5 million or plays hard ball with Kliff so much to make him see the light and negotiate a buyout.
To go through this again next year is not good for anyone. It's not good for the coach, players, school, fans, you name it. You're going to lose more than that $9 million in the next year or two if something is not done now. It will set back this program more than an additional year.
One example: recruiting. I can't imagine the negative recruiting for the rest of the 2017 period, and then especially going into the summer and the 2018 class.
This program will be absolutely gut-punched if this continues on into 2017.
