Texas Tech’s 2025 football schedule is largely a known commodity, as the Big 12 announced the teams that the Red Raiders will take on in year four under Joey McGuire last winter.

What isn’t known is the order that the Red Raiders will take on its opponents during the season. There’s plenty of factors to make a favorable schedule and projecting it in the middle of the off-season is a difficult task, but the ideal schedule would lack back-to-back games on the road, miss back-to-back projected quality opponents and have a couple timely bye weeks, so let’s take a look at what that could be for Tech in 2025.

Texas Tech 2025 Big 12 Opponents

Home:
BYU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, UCF

Away: Arizona State, Houston, Kansas State, Utah, West Virginia

RRS Ideal Schedule

Aug. 30 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Sep. 6 vs. Kent State

Sep. 13 vs. Oregon State

Sep. 20 at Houston

Sep. 27 vs. BYU

Oct. 4 BYE

Oct. 11 at Kansas State

Oct. 18 vs. Kansas

Oct. 25 at Utah

Nov. 1 UCF

Nov. 8 BYE

Nov. 15 at Arizona State

Nov. 22 Oklahoma State

Nov. 29 at West Virginia

After Tech’s three-game stretch to open the season at home, including matchups with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State, it wouldn’t be the worst thing for Tech to take a trip on the road, and the best spot would be an in-state trip to Houston against a team who has a lot of new pieces and a new quarterback early in the season.

Coming back after the Houston trip would be a tough opponent in BYU, but not having to leave the state of Texas for the entirety of the first month of the season would be an extremely favorable piece for the Red Raiders, with opponents that Tech should be able to handle.

After a bye week, I would like to see the Red Raiders take on Kansas State, getting this trip out of the way. K-State has been the model of consistency, and is returning its quarterback in 2025, so a bye week would be nice before having to go to Manhattan.

A pair of mid-October/early-November home games against Kansas and UCF would be a nice sandwich to a trip to Utah, which I would want to avoid being any later than this date due to weather up in the Beehive State.

Tech’s second bye, once again timely, ahead of a trip to the Big 12 winner and Arizona State, a team who is returning a ton and has done some work in the portal. There should be some nice weather in Tempe at this time, not too hot, which would be the concern for a September trip here.

Senior day against Oklahoma State would be a fun one before a trip to Morgantown on the finale of the regular season, giving Tech a solid opportunity to finish the season, in theory.

While there’s many angles to this, and I’m sure you all will have some, what would be your ideal schedule for Tech this fall?
