We will keep this updated as we get in contact with more recruits. Tech had a lot of official visitors this weekend and many of them are still going through their OV activities.

Tech hosted 2018 Franklin (Texas) offensive lineman Casey Phillips on an unofficial visit this past weekend. The lineman was one of Tech’s very first 2018 offers back in June, and this weekend worked with his schedule to get to Lubbock.
“Tech offered me in June and have always been one of my favorite places since I started the recruiting process. We had a bye week this past week and the trip to Lubbock is a long drive, so this was really the only time we could get out there.”
The coaches have been talking with Phillips pretty regularly since they offered. Phillips has been to Lubbock for a game before and had a great time this time around.
“I really enjoyed it because I really like Lubbock. It isn’t too big of a town like a Dallas or a Houston, but it isn’t a small town like I come from. I’m a big fan of how the campus is set up, and I really love the people there, so regardless of how the visit played out, I really enjoyed it.”
He got to sit down with the coaches before the game which was a big takeaway for the 6-foot-6 tackle prospect.
“I just liked how personable the coaches are and even though they have a big game before, they are out there sitting with us and making us feel at home.”
“I talked with coach Morris and coach Hays mainly. We talked about everything underneath the sun. We talked about my season. We talked about my potential at Tech and how they say that I am the type of offensive lineman they are looking for. We talked about everything.”
“Aggressiveness and run blocking I think are the biggest draws that they like about me. We don’t pass at my school. I am always in a four-point stance.”
Phillips said the recruits stayed the entire game and despite the outcome, he really liked the atmosphere around Lubbock.
“The atmosphere was just as good as whenever they win. I love the Lubbock atmosphere, and I really enjoyed it.”

Tech hosted a potential QB target in Levelland’s Nick Gerber this weekend too. The QB has been on the radar since the summer and enjoyed getting to experience Tech as a recruit.
“It was good. I’ve been to a lot of Tech games before, just not as a recruit. It was awesome to see that from that aspect. I really just enjoyed being there and seeing the coaches.”
“I got to see the facilities, the locker room, the weight room, the media room. I got to talk to coach Morris before the game. I got to see the sideline before the game and watch the pregame.”
The local QB product received a text from coach Morris last week, and the offensive coordinator really wanted to get Gerber to Lubbock for a game.
“Coach Morris texted me on Wednesday and told me I should come to the game this weekend and we set something up. He will text me every once in a while and see how I’m doing, and I’ll text him every now and again to see how they are doing. He told me they were keeping up with me this year and wanted me to come and see the facilities.”
Gerber will always be a fan of Lubbock, despite the outcome.
“I just thought it was a cool experience even if the game didn’t go as planned. Overall I thought it was good, and I liked being there a lot.”

Four-star Rivals250 wide receiver Drue Jackson made the trip to Lubbock this weekend with some of his teammates. The high profile wide receiver target has family in the Lubbock area and is always around Lubbock, but was excited to take the trip this time around for a variety of reasons.
"I was interested in going to this game because it was homecoming and they had a lot of recruits on official visits. I'm really close with a lot of those guys, so I just wanted to see the commits and hang out with them."
"I hung out with my teammate Riko Jeffers, Jack (Anderson), and Bronson (Boyd). They are all like family speaking to them about everything."
As mentioned, Jackson has been to Lubbock on multiple occasions before this weekend. This biggest takeaway from this time around?
"The game's atmosphere. The crowd was live the majority of the game and the students were going crazy. I really liked the atmosphere around the game."
Along with the recruits, Jackson got some special treatment from the coaches as well.
"I talked with coach Morris and coach Jones a lot. When I first got to the game coach Jones told me he wanted me to dress out tonight and play. After the game he talked with me, Bronson, and the Giddings WR (commit Treveon Johnson) about why I should commit and what he wants in the future."
"He says the air raid offense is too good to pass up and they have some top notch players that I would be coming in with."
Despite the game not going as planned, what are Jackson's overall thoughts on Tech?
"They are still in my top 5 for sure. Everything about Lubbock and seeing the wide receivers progressing each game and watching them grow on the field has my interest for sure."

The Texas Tech coaches hosted many commits – both 2017 and 2018 – this weekend including 2018 Giddings (Texas) wide receiver commit Treveon Johnson. Johnson committed to Tech over the summer and took his first ever visit to Lubbock this weekend.
“It was pretty good, honestly. I enjoyed the crowd, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The only thing that I didn’t like was the loss, but everything else was really good.”
Since his commitment, Johnson has heard a lot of good things about Texas Tech and Lubbock and he said the visit did not disappoint.
“I honestly enjoyed all of it. A lot of people told me that Lubbock was a college town and everything shuts down because everyone is watching the game on Saturday. Everything shuts down because everyone is going to watch the game on Saturday, and I just love that feeling. When I got to the game and there were a lot of people there, I knew they were correct. I loved that I got to see the coaches and talk to them, too.”
“Everything went well. They (the coaches) were all real surprised to see me and they said I got taller. They said it was good to see me.”
Johnson talks with coach Jones every week. When he committed over the summer, it was the vibe that he got from coach Jones that really made him excited to be a Red Raider. On the visit, Johnson was very excited to reunite with coach Jones and talk with him.
“With coach Jones I just got to talk about our future, and what’s our big goal and what are we expecting out of ourselves as athletes and the coaches. We talked about scheme and how we would fit in and how he expects us to ball out in a few years.”
Johnson said he hung out with Cam Jones, Drue Jackson, and Bronson Boyd the most on the visit. While the loss put a dampering on most fans’ experience, what were Johnson’s thoughts on his first visit to the south plains?
“Honestly, I liked it. The atmosphere seemed like a tradition, and it seemed like something I could step into and be myself and enjoy the time for the next four years. I feel like I could stay there, and have a chance to do a lot of good things there. I loved the whole vibe.”
It was a quick visit for Johnson, so he is hoping to fly up again this season (or next summer) with his dad to get a better look at Lubbock and enjoy all of it.
