Way OT: Video transfer services

I have numerous videotapes (Hi8, MiniDV, etc.) of the family that I would love to have transferred to DVD. I have never done this before, and I see that Walgreens, WalMart, etc. now provide this service. I didn't know if should just go to a Walgreens or choose a professional processing/editing company for better results. Any ideas, recommendations, and pointers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any responses. I am in the Dallas area if you have any specific recommendations.
