Heading into the last weekend of the 2015 recruiting cycle, Texas Tech is sitting at 17 commitments. While there are always a lot of lines in the water in recruiting, it's clear that the Red Raiders are squarely in the mix for the following prospects:
Four-star defensive tackle Darrion Daniels is expected to announce Friday night and I think it'll come down to one of the Oklahoma schools or Texas Tech. If I was guessing, I would say Oklahoma.
Four-star defensive lineman Joseph Wicker is the prospect that Texas Tech may need the most because of his potential presence on the edge and his motor. Wicker will pick between UCLA, Arizona State and Texas Tech. I think the Red Raiders and Sun Devils are in better shape than the Bruins but this will go until National Signing Day.
Four-star running back Chris Warren is a prospect that would be fun to land if you're the Red Raiders. He's not someone you necessarily need because you're somewhat stocked at his position but he'd offer up some unique measurables and push his way into some very early playing time. Warren will either be a Red Raider or a Longhorn -- and I do think it is closer to 50-50 than anyone realizes -- but Texas will be tough to beat for him in the end.
Four-star linebacker Arthur McGinnis, like Wicker, would be an ideal land because of the things he can do on defense. It will be Arizona, Oklahoma or Texas Tech for him and I think it will either be Guns Up or Boomer Sooner.
With three-star cornerback Henry Black, your guess is as good as mine but I think it will come down to Texas Tech and Baylor for him.
I'm not saying that either is likely, but I wouldn't be stunned if Texas Tech landed either Fred Ulu-Perry or Semisi Uluave. If I had to put money on it, I would bet that Ulu-Perry sticks with UCLA. The Uluave recruitment is tricky to pin down because of his upcoming LDS mission and the fact that you'd have to re-recruit him in two years.
There are other possibles like Dorance Armstrong and Tyreik Gray but I think they'll stick with Kansas and Houston respectively.
I'll leave you with a few things...
Do I think they'll Tech will get to 25? No.
Do I think Tech will be in a position to add a signee or transfer at some point after NSD like they have the last two years? Yes.
Do I think that there is more going on than what is written above? I very strongly believe that there is, yes.
